Q:how much weight will they support. Plan on hanging small tool cabinet on concrete wall

Answer This Question

A:  Don’t know. I threw the package out & their website ( https://www.tapcon.com/ ) doesn’t list specs. I would think each screw could handle 100#’s but you could go up to a 5/16 screw

by|Jun 2, 2021

A:  I think that depends on the number of fasteners used and the integrity of the material you are attaching to.

Q:Is it appropriate to use these to attach Hurricane Headers and F-tracks to wood?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello, we do not currently publish values for use in wood and cannot recommend doing so. It would be more appropriate to use a GRK fastener for this application.

by|Apr 30, 2020

A:  The Tapcon screws are designed as brick and mortar anchors. I do not use them with wood unless I am attaching the wood to brick or mortar. When used in that manner, I drill pilot holes through the wood and the brick or mortar before driving the screw. I like to have at least 1.5" of the screw actually in the brick or mortar to assure a secure attachment when high wind is a factor.

Q:can i use my dewalt impact 20v to installed or do i really need a hammer drill ... on concrete ?

    Answer This Question

A:  we installed ours with the dewalt, may need hammer drill for the holes if your going into hard concrete

    by|Sep 10, 2019

A:  You need a hammer drill and masonry bit to drill into concrete. Once the hole is drilled you can screw the Tapcon into the hole with a flat blade screwdriver but a nut driver or screw gun/impact driver with proper bit is easiest.

A:  Hammer drill all the way... and its for the predrill that you need it for, you can dive the screw with anything... but you'll also need a concrete drill bit which tapcon makes, conveniently.

          Work Great
These TapCon 1/4" x 1-3/4" White UltraShield Hex Washer-Head Concrete Anchors get the job done quick. The included drill bit really makes a difference, it's better than trying to search for the right size at home or having to buy an additional piece. The heads on these bolts are really what make the difference. I've used Phillips head and star anchors before just to have them strip out during use. Being able to use a nut driver makes this so easy. And the heads don't snap if too much force is applied. I had a couple get stuck as I got too close to rebar and I was able to back them out and move them. Previous types used ended up snapping off the heads and I was stuck with visible bolt shafts in my wall.

The screws work well in securing downspouts to mortar. The included drill bit did not work well. Fortunately, I had a quality set of brick and mortar bits. I like the screw's ability to use a flathead or socket to tighten down the screw. I prefer to use a socket as it does not strip the head of the screw when tightening the screw and it reduces driver slipping when working in challenging and tight places. I use this product frequently and like to keep them on hand.

I bought these to secure a basement sink to the concrete floor. I drilled the holes the correct size and depth. The first anchor went in perfectly with using one washer. While tightening the rest, the anchors would stop and not go down any further without stripping the heads. I dropped deeper and cleaned the hole but they still wouldn’t go down any further. I had to use a washer stack of three or four to secure the sink down for now. Not sure if the other anchors were defective but I plan on using different anchors next time around.
