Zinsser Cover Stain 13 oz. Oil Base White Interior/Exterior Primer and Sealer (Case of 6) spray sticks to any surface without sanding and can be used under and over oil and latex topcoats. It features an oil-based formula that seals stains from water, smoke, fire, nicotine and tannin bleed. Excellent stain killer and bond coat, dries to the touch in just 30 minutes.

Q:Can this be used on stucco to prevent the rusting mesh in the stucco from bleeding through the top coat? Or is there something else?

    A:  It will probably cover the stain but won't prevent the rust from coming back. I would treat the area with Ospho or a similar rust neutralizer, let it cure, then cover with a few coats of the brush-on version of this primer, then apply the top coat.

      A:  We are here to help, Pat! While Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer Spray can be used on exterior metal surfaces, it will not bind chalky surfaces and the chalking would need to be remedied prior to using this primer to ensure full adhesion. Instead, we recommend Rust-Oleum Seal Krete Original for painted or unpainted aluminum.           Q:I painted my ceiling with Kilz and white ceiling paint. When it dried a tan colored stain appeared that's 18" wide and 4' long. It looks like I painted that area with a different color paint. What do you think it is? Will this cover the stain?

            I am handyman, I needed this to cover a stain...
            I am handyman, I needed this to cover a stain on a ceiling tile in a restaurant. I pulled the tile down to spray it and the spray would not work. I had to go back to HD return it and get a new one. This cost me a lot time and money. I realize this not the products fault, but it is the Zinssers responsibility.

            Thank you for reaching out, Pete! It sounds like the nozzle was clogged. Inside each can of Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer Spray is a dip tube that pulls the paint from the bottom of the can to the tip. If the pigment in the paint is too big or if there's not enough pressure behind it, it can get stuck in the tube or tip and the paint won't spray. Shaking the can for a full minute before each use can help prevent this. Try turning the can upside down and spraying for a few seconds. If the clog is in the tip, soaking it in mineral spirits should clear it out.
