Q:My landscape guy said I need 2 tons of topsoil but I don’t know how much that is and how much I need to order

Answer This Question
A: Great question! Volume to weight can be tricky conversion as soil weight can vary by region and moisture. 5 cubic yards is approximately 5.74 US tons calculated at a density of 85 lb/ft3. If you need 2 tons of topsoil, an alternative may be purchasing by the bag/pallet. Topsoil is sold by the bag at Home Depot in 40lb bags with 60 bags per pallet (bags per pallet may vary by region).

A: Rob, we do not have a conversion for pounds to yards. The weight of the product depends on the type of material and how wet or dry the material is. This can always vary. For further assistance or to discuss how much material you need, please contact your local Home Depot Prodesk. Thank you!

A: Good morning! Thank you for inquiring about the topsoil. We require our trucks to stay on a hard surface. This means the delivery will be made in the driveway. The topsoil is loose material and will arrive on a dump truck. It will not be bagged.
