A:  no key assembly but it can be locked using the inside latch

Q:For Barton Kramer model #428, the part which is inside the door and which contains the hooking latch has broken. I am savvy enough to take the interior and exterior handles off the door, but how do I get the metal part (which is broken) out of the door because it is larger than the hole in the door frame (when I take out the screws, it seems to me that it will fall to the bottom of the door, gulp). I am ready to order the part from HomeDepot and I will try to install it, but unless I know how the interior piece is removed/installed, I will need to contact a contractor to install it.

A:  Yes it is. I had to modify the surface plate to re position the lock lever to the sit in the middle of the surface plate to install it on my sliding door.

    A:  Yes, the lock is offset between the mounting screws of the handle set.

      A:  Screws too long for your door get a white piece of plastic or plexiglass 1eight inch shape it so it looks nice drill 2 holes to match and that should do it

        A:  Try removing the screws and add a dab of Loctite Blue Threadlocker 242. Adding the Blue Threadlocker to the screw threads will prevent the screws from loosening.
