A: No
A: It is galvanized, so I would not recommend storing anything for human consumption in it.
A: No, our cans are not recommended for human food consumption. The 6 gallon can is also for dry storage only and will not hold frying oil.
A: No. This pail is galvanized, which means it is plated with zinc to stop rust. I would not use it to store food for human consumption, especially a liquid which may absorb some of the zinc galvanizing.
A: It is NOT stainless steel and it is NOT made to hold liquid. Would not recommend it for this type use.
A: I had the same experience with 2 of the 3 I purchased at the same time. When I returned them to the store, I purchased 2 more after matching the lid and cans while at the store. I think the problem arises because the lid fits 2 different container sizes.
A: Yes, lids are tight. Looking at the picture now it seems like the lids we have are about an inch taller.
A: these lids fit tight and require some pressure to put on. I have 3 of them and all have tight lids. For those that wonder if they are air tight, I cannot tell.
A: Kids are designed to fit tight- you may think they do not fit but they do- the handle pushes them down even tighter- these are designed to be animal proof!
A: mine have all fit. The lids are meant to fit tightly. You have to push harder.
A: The lids fit snugly to prevent spillage. The handle is then pulled over the lid to lock it in place for transport. It's a really nice feature.
A: I have 4 or 5 of these, and all the lids fit. That said, most of 'em are pretty snug. They don't just fall on - you have to push the lid onto the bucket. They are tight to keep bugs and rodents out.
A: yes it fits but is nice and snug. I keep BQ pellets in it.
A: The lid fits, it's just really tight to get on and off, but for us that's a good thing.
A: My bucket's lid fit so tight, I had to pound it on and off with a rubber mallet. So I lined the bucket's rim with 2 layers of electrical tape to make it even wider, then pounded the lid on and left it for a day or two. Then I pounded the lid off, and removed the tape. The lid fit just right afterwards.
A: I purchased these trash cans with a locking lid based on a recommendation from the pest control person helping me control a rat problem in my garage. The tech stated that all pet food (including treats) and birdseed should be stored in locking / sealed metal containers except when you are serving the food or spreading the food. I have not had a problem with the rats chewing thru the metal the way they would chew thru plastic.
A: This can absolutely stops mice. There is no way for a rodent to chew their way into this metal can. The lid fits fairly tightly (I have to push a couple of places around the edge before putting up the locking handle). It isn't air-tight, but close. No way for a mouse or rat to get in. If you buy large bags of dog food, you may want to get 2 cans - they aren't "jumbo" sized. Or, maybe there is a larger size available.
A: This is the perfect can to keep out pesty rodents. The lid fits tightly even without the locking bail, but you will want to use the bail if you know you have a problem with rats. We have them available in 3 sizes depending on your need. 4, 6 and 10 gallon. Thank you for considering our product!
A: Absolutely!
A: Yes. I sometimes find the lid is a little difficult to remove because it fits so tight, but it's better than not staying on.
A: Depending on size it holds almost 20lb of bird feed
A: Yes
A: Can't say exactly on the volume of 20 lbs. of pellets, since I've not used it for that purpose, but the can is very sturdy and will definitely handle the 20 lb. weight.
A: Yes, the hold capacity on this container is "up to 35lbs." However, this is dependent on the size or diameter of the pellets. Larger pellets = less capacity. Smaller pellets = more capacity. Thank you for supporting Behrens and US manufacturing!
A: It will hold 24 quarts and I have used it for 20 pounds of bird seed- depends on how you fail it and compact the pellets.
A: Yup!
A: How many pounds of your choice of pellets fill a gallon container?
A: I believe so.
A: Determine the cubic inches that this 20 lbs will take and check against the cans dimensions.
A: I keep my dog's food in a 5 gallon bucket. It holds a full 20 lb bag of Pedigree. I would expect that a 6 gallon would hold around 24 or 25 lbs.
A: about 15 pounds or one of the medium bags. The larger version will hold a 25 pound bag.
A: It is a 6 gallon can. A gallon is approx. 8 lbs. so, in theory, it should hold between 20 and 24 lbs. of seed.
A: I put between 20 - 25 lbs of birdseed in one of these trash cans
A: I purchase one of the large bird seed bags and this will not hold the entire bag. I store the remaining bird seed bag in a large, covered garbage can. The small can allows me to carry around to all bird feeders. Much more manageable.
A: 25-30 lbs.
A: I in compliance with fire code I think it would be great it would hold a lot of rags
A: Don't see why not
A: I don't know why not.
A: Yup.
A: A very good choice.
A: Yes- I would line the bucket though with a trash bag-
A: Yes but it is NOT liquid proof so built up excess oil that collects at the bottom of the can might leak out at the seam. I'd recommend you put a liner in the can first. The lid fits tight so anything that may cause vapors could build up inside the can.
A: Only if you don't want your fire insurance after the first fire... Actually the pail might do if you first braze up the gap around the lid handle. Recommend sourcing a HAZMAT rated can... usually Red in color.
A: It is galvanized so I don't see why not.
A: You bet. And the lid really locks onto the can for an air sealed fit!
A: First, yes it is a galvanized bucket and lid, so yes its rustproof.( it's made out of the same material as galvanized chain like fences back in the day) And 2 see pic as I didnt ask for inner or outer measurements
A: The ID of the bucket at the top is 13". Regarding rust-resistance. Well, nothing made of steel is totally rust proof, but I have had one of these for about 9 years, and there is no rust on it. They are pretty heavily galvanized. Of course, if you leave it sitting out in the rain, it will eventually rust. But under normal usage, you will not see any rust for a very, very long time.
A: So far it is rust proof. I haven't measured it yet.
A: It is a galvanized can. Like a trash can it will last for a while but I would not say it is "rust proof". The can is approx. 18" diameter at the top.
A: It appears to be rust proof. I've had mine over one year, stays outside; no rust visible.
A: pull the handle down toward the side
A: You just lower the handle and ease the lid off.
A: Just swing the handle down to unlock, back up to lock.
A: Push the handle to one side. Then pull off the lid. The lid is kind of tight, but that is a good thing. When you put the lid back on, make sure you press it fully onto the can. Then pull the handle upwards to lock.
A: The handle pivots to lock the lid making it difficult, to impossible, to open when the handle is in the vertical/near vertical position.
A: You can. But always have a water hose. Just in case. I shed my papers ( we closed wood you furniture of north Miami, fla. I found the shredding the paper. Then putting the cross cut bits into a cardboard egg carton, then a full square of paper towel. Man does that burn great. Only to be surpassed not dry roasted pistachios shells! I use them to start a fire in my wood burning fireplace. It's just a suggestion instead of burning it. I sold 2 30 gallon of shredded store receipts.
A: I think this one is too small . I have seen larger ones with ventilation holes, which would be better suited for burning trash.
A: No, I would not suggest using it as a burning vessel.
A: yes.
A: No
A: Yes. I keep mine on my deck where it is exposed to all the elements and the seed is completely dry.
A: Yes. I keep mine on the deck where it it is exposed to all the elements and the seed is safe and dry.
A: Great for storing birdseed
A: Yes, this is one of the top uses for the product. Doing so will also prevent rodents from getting to the seed.
A: Absolutely ! I have one for birdseed, and I am going to buy another one tomorrow for the same purpose
