Q:I have 7' ceiling and a standard 80" door slab. What is the minimum distance required (e.g. the clearance) between the top of the door and the ceiling to ensure it can: a) be hung, and b) the rollers will not hit the ceiling as they travel on the track?

A:  Lay the door down on a protected surface and place the hardware carefully onto the door per the instructions. Measure from the top of the roller to the bottom of the door and add 2” to allow room to set door onto the rail and 1/2” at the bottom of the door. If your total distance is more than 84” you will have to cut the bottom of the door to make it fit. I find more often than not in older homes with lower ceilings that I am shortening doors. Hope this helps.

A:  I measured the hardware ABOVE the door. It takes up 5 inches.

A:  I'd say the very top of the wheels on our door when hung is 83 1/2 inches... that would give you a half in to spare...just barely fitting.

Q:It appears the roller strap can be mounted to the door at variable heights? The instructions are 40mm/1.57" but the pictures show them mounted further down from the top edge of the door. Is it me or is there a little bit of leeway on this measurement?

A:  A little leeway, but you shouldn't go too far. Those little discs that get attached at the top, they are there to "lock" the door on the rail. So that if it hits something while moving, it won't torque & pop off the rail.

A:  Just take a scrap 2x4 and the roller strap as if they're bolted together and see if it hooks over the track.

A:  I had to finagle mine because I made a mistake with the install. I literally just put the door onto the rollers and adjusted the bar to the height that I wanted. The only regret that I had was that I didn’t place the board that I mounted the track to a little lower. It wasn’t a big deal because I just filled in the “mistake” holes and you can’t tell it happened.

                      Answer This Question

A:  It. Does not matter at all. The hardware will accomadate solid or hollow core door very good hardware supplied

                      by|May 5, 2023

A:  Won't matter as long as the two screw in the pulley bar are tight. I would position those into the framework an that might be a limitation depending on how wide the framework is. A hollow door will be lighter as well.

A:  In my opinion, solid core is better because of the weight. Design-wise the door is supposed to resemble a heavy barn door. Hollow doors aren’t heavy and don’t necessarily glide on the track; they flap at the bottom and look and sound cheap.

A:  I used a hollow core door with no issues.

A:  I built my own door from solid cedar. I would say it is better to use a solid core door, since it is hung from the top

Q:What is the size of the roller? I’m trying to figure out how high it sits on top of the track to see if it will slide under some duct work in the basement

A:  I had unlimited headroom as well. The roller diameter is 2-3/4" . There is a 1/4" deep groove around each roller. When assembled, the vertical door straps are 1/2" above tops of rollers. Height of assembled straps is 3" above top of track. Total height from top of door to top of straps is approximately 5". You need to allow an additional 1/4" to lift door onto track unless you have room to slide door from end. This kit was easy to assemble and looks and works great. Good luck.

A:  The roller itself is approximately 2-5/8" in diameter. The distance from the top of the track to the top of the bracket which supports the roller is 3".
