Q:In case I wanted to swap in a cast iron grill replacement for factory, would this model hold a 17 3/4 x 10 7/16 panel times three across? Liking this grill so far but the grid is throwing me off a little. Thank you.

                          A:  The grates for this model are porcelain-coated, so they do not require seasoning, but it is encouraged.

                            A:  Yes we seasoned ours. Not sure if it made a difference or not. But I caution you to be careful to make sure you get all the oil off before lighting the grill. We ended up with a nice size fireball when we opened the lid on the first use after seasoning it.

                              A:  No mine looked dark also .but I also use a little oil when I cook .I'm mean a little.to much will cause smoke and fire sometimes.
