A: Yes, it must be drilled into the wall at the two ends. It is not a tension rod.

A: I do not know if the plastic handle can be purchased separetly. However, I do not find the plastic accessory useful. I just flip he bar with my hand. I discarded the handle.

A: YES! The knuckle ends tighten in place by a wedge, so you can shorten as needed. An alignment toil is supplied so you can properly align the ends,as you tighten them.

A: 7 1/2 inches with the end knuckles mounted as they would be when installed. Slightly less if you have to cut the rod down for a narrower opening.

A: Screws are required. It comes with anchors for both tile and drywall. Installation was pretty easy.
