    Q:Thinning
    by|Aug 22, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. As general rule, "thinning" of the product is not recommended, however, If the product should thicken or is excessively dry (which typically indicates that the product is aged/beyond its 12 month shelf life), providing that the product is still pliable, a small volume of water may be added to the product to restore its originally intended texture/consistency. If that procedure is not effective, it typically indicates that the product is no longer viable/usable. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Patch -N-Paint Lightweight Spackling Paste. DAP PATCH-N-PAINT is designed and marketed for minor cosmetic/surface repairs, such as dents/dings in wallboard. As is the case with all wall/ceiling patching compounds, the final surface appearance of the product is contingent upon your application technique. Tooling or smoothing is required to initially place and shape the profile of the product to smooth surface appearance. As a final step, light surface sanding may be required to achieve the desired cosmetic finish. Likewise, most paint manufacturers will recommend or require the use of a primer (on bare surfaces such as new drywall and patching compounds), prior to the application of their topcoat paint finished. Because you did not provide any details about your project/attempted use of the patch or the paint/finishing process, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed response in this format. Should you wish to provide this information, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some offer some additional application/finishing guidance.

Q:I have molds that I want to cast. Will this work? I want it to have a working time of around 30 minutes, so longer than regular plaster of Paris, but I also want it to actually dry in the mold. I used drywall and it hadn't set up after 3 days.
