As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature for DAP Plastic Wood All Purpose Wood Filler.: " Overfill to allow for settling and sanding.” Additionally, it is formulated to allow for the building up of layers for deeper applications. Per product label: For larger and deeper holes, apply thin layers to build up thick sections. Allow wood filler to dry before applying next layer. Allow to dry thoroughly before sanding: approximately 3 to 6 hours for shallow fills up to 1/8” and 36 hours for deeper fills 1/4” and over.", application outside of this guidance may result in slow drying, shrinkage and tension cracking.
