Q:What's the best adhesive to use to install this soap dish? Thx

Answer This Question
A: I always use silicone caulk. Tape it on the wall overnight. Don't let the silicone get on the outside edges or the grout won't stick around the edges. Apply silicone caulk around the edges after the grout sets overnight for extra waterproofing.

A: Hello Homeowner, The Daltile Restore 6 in. x 3 in. x 4 in. Glazed Ceramic Soap Dish in Bright White will not work with a shower fiberglass insert. Thank you for your interest in our product.

A: First off, never start with a fiberglass insert. Secondly, if you use a fiberglass module/ insert then soap is probably not needed.

Q:If the portion that is recessed into the wall is 4" x 4" and the overall height of the soap dish is only 4" that means that there is no overlap of the soap dish over the surface of the tile it's being installed into. That seems odd. Typically put adhesive both on the back of the recessed portion that mates to the backer board as well as around the lip around the perimeter of the 4x4 portion so that it bonds to the face of the tile as well. Seems like if the height of the soap dish doesn't completely cover (overlap) the opening in the tile it would leave a gap that would be hard to fill. Am I missing something?

A: The advertiser MUST make clear in a very simple way - that the product is 6 inch length, 4 inch width and 3 inch depth (going inside the wall) (sorry I am a ENGLISH 2nd speaker!).

A: Per the installation instructions, this soap dish is designed to attach to the backer board or void where an original soap dish would have been tiled in. The front of the dish does contact the face of the tile and is meant to be grouted around the perimiter after installation. In my case I use a kitchen and bath adhesive sealant to seal up the perimeter because it had a much shorter cure time than grout.

A: Hello Debbie,
The soap dish is installed using mortar or thinset if done while doing surrounding tile. I have also seen them supported with a construction adhesive in the cases where they are installed as a repair. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

A: Purchase an adhesive that will work on ceramic products and is waterproof. Make sure the surface is completely dry, even clean it with alcohol and dry cloth.
Read the instructions, tape it to the tile and do not touch for 24 hours. Then apply caulk to the entire edge. Looks great.
