Answer This Question

A:  It will, ever so slightly. may need two coats

by|May 8, 2019

A:  Jojo, Yes, if you apply our Americana Decor Creme Wax (Brown, Lt. Brown, Clear or White) it can be buffed, once dry, to a satin sheen. You can buff it with a soft cotton cloth to achieve the desired sheen you're looking for. -DecoArt Paint Guru

      Answer This Question

A:  You can apply over any finish! I have used this paint on several pieces of furniture and it comes out amazing no matter what you're painting over.

A:  Jenn, Yes, you can apply our Chalky finish over a flat paint. The Chalky Finish itself is a very matte finish. We would encourage you to apply a clear wax or varnish over the Chalky Finish if it will be applied to a high traffic area. Due to the nature of the matte finish, it will pick up smudges, dust and fingerprints easily. Our Americana Decor Clear Wax or Varnish will protect the finish and make clean up easy. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Q:Will I be able to write on this product with chalk, after its painted on the wall?

            Answer This Question

A:  Monie, Unfortunately, the answer is no. This is a Chalky Paint primarily used for Furniture restoration and re-purposing, not a chalkboard paint that you can write with chalk on walls. You'll need a specific chalkboard paint for that project. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Q:I painted my side table with a dark gel stain. Don't like the color. Will this paint cover over the stain ?

              Answer This Question

A:  Iris, It will cover the dark gel stain as long as it's not a solvent based stain like MinWax. However, we would highly recommend that you apply our Americana Decor Stain Blocker/Sealer on the piece first and let it cure for 5 days. Then you can apply your Chalky Finish paint. The stain blocker will keep the dark stain or any tannins from seeping through and staining your lighter paint over time. -DecoArt Paint Guru

A:  Probably, although you may have to use more than one coat. It does a good job of adhering to most everything. If you're concerned about adherence, you can take any sheen off with steel wool, wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry before painting.

                by|May 4, 2023

A:  It will cover but you will need to put a clear coat to protect the finish. Some clear coats will change the color and cause it to bleed through. I would recommend sanding if you have a dark base color. If it is a show piece of furniture that is not used you can get away with no clear coat and it would work fine. If it is used or scratched it will peel off.

A:  I think it will. I have used it on all kinds of furniture. It will take more then one coat. It may take 3.

A:  I painted my glossy kitchen chairs with 2 coats. covered very nicely tho there was some crackling but I actually want that look. the first chair I painted I first applied zinsser bulls eye 1 2 3 primer then painted 2 coats but I didn't see any difference when I just painted the chalk paint with no primer on my other chairs. it's very thick and covers very nicely. hope that helps.

A:  Yes, but we would highly recommend prepping it with our Americana Decor Stain Blocker first. Let it cure for 5 days. Then apply your Chalky finish paint. The Stain blocker will keep the tannins and original gel stains from eventually seeping through into your paint and making it look splotchy or "dirty" over time. -DecoArt Paint Guru
