Q:Can I use on a charcoal smoker

Answer This Question

A:  You probably could, I use them as decorative rocks in my fireplace. I'm not sure if the Lava Rocks will leave any type of after-taste on your meat though. Hope this was helpful. Good Luck!

A:  I would of not thought of that, if you’re going to using the lava rocks up away from the burning wood and under your grate for cooking then it would help retain your temperature because the rocks do hold the heat. Not recommended where you’d be creating ashes.

Q:Can these be used for an indoor gas stove top grill that has a rack with slates above the flame?

    Answer This Question

A:  If you like to use the lava rocks for that purpose there’s no reason why I would not use the rocks to help spread the heating temperature. Honestly I am not familiar with the indoor stove top grill.

A:  Yes I believe so I used above my fire place!

Q:I am making a wood burning fire pit, can i use this lava rock to fill the bottom part of the pit?

      Answer This Question

A:  I've not thought to do that; I use my lava rocks in a regular gas grill. But I'm not sure why you couldn't. It seems to me that it would be similar to methods some use to smoke food.

      by|Jul 4, 2020

A:  I have heard of people using lava rocks for that purpose of lining the sides and bottom of a wood burning fire pit. Again helps hold the heat, the only part I would be curious about is cleaning out the pit and having the ashes fill over the lava rocks. Still would work the hold the heat.

Q:How many bags do I have to buy
          by|Jun 27, 2020

          Answer This Question

A:  Measure length and width of the surface you wish to cover with the rocks, multiply those two numbers together and that is the square inches you need cover. You only need one layer deep. The bag states that it covers 300 sq. inches HOWEVER BEWARE, I have been shorted in my purchase and only had enough rock to cover 180 sq. in. and the bag did NOT contain 7 lbs. of rock but only 4.6 lbs. So, just keep in mind that since they short you on the product you may need more than what the bag actually states.

Q:Can they be used in an electric grill?

            Answer This Question

A:  Yes, this can be used in an electric grill only if the grill is an outdoor type and is designated to use lava rocks.

            by|May 27, 2023

A:  Yes, with care they can. Just make sure you don't put them on the electric coils in the grill. I would suggest having some kind of rack or tray stationed at least a couple of inches above the coils so that they heat the rocks and but the rocks don't actually touch the electrical part.

A:  Hi Barb. Thank you for your question. The Lava Rock for grills is much larger in size than the Lava Rock for your garden. Other than that, it is the same. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC

                Answer This Question

A:  I don't think so it is small odd size pieces, not square like charcoal I used mine as landscape rock and got the square type lava for my gas grill.

A:  They vary in size, the average size is about 11/2 to 2". I used them as the base for the decorative fireglass I placed under an artificial fireplace log/fire unit in my home fireplace, to make the fake flames look real when they bounce off the fireglass. Hope this was helpful.

A:  An average size is unavailable as the rocks are natural rocks which can vary in size.

A:  I see no reason why not. I use the lava rock in my gas grill to help hold the heat keeping a longer constant heat. I’m sure it would do about the same for an electric heat source.

A:  Hello, I doubt that these Lava Rocks are any different than others. I purchased them because they were less expensive; however, I found them to be a nice variety of sizes and colors, (ranging from charcoal brown to reddish brown). I used them in my fireplace for filler material to make my colored crushed glass cover more space. Hope this was helpful, thanks for asking. -Priscilla
