A: description says a pair can hold 200lbs, so assuming you use good anchors, and that your shelf is rigid, you could get away with as few as 2 brackets, just place them at equal intervals under the shelf.

A: From the wall to the tip of the bracket it measures 7 and 3/8 inches From the wall to the center of the hole is 6 and 7/8 inches. The board I bought that said it was 8 inches was actually 7 and 3/8 inches. I hope this helps.

A: If you can center the shelf between the studs the brackets don't need to be all the way to the outer edges of the shelf. For a 4 foot shelf they could be in as much as a foot on either side and probably still be fine. Depending on the weight you plan to hold and the board you are using.

Q:I bought a 4 foot long 1 by 10 board. Will these brackets work or did I need the 10 by 12 brackets? Also, do the brackets need to be a certain distance apart or can I just put them in where the studs are?

A: With two brackets, you'd most likely end up with a sagging shelf. Three into 16'
o.c. wall studs with 6" overhang at each end should work.
