Q:Can I use it no wood?
by|Sep 30, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Giani may be used on wood. The key is to ensure that your wood surface is as smooth as possible before starting. Plywood is a very challenging surface because its natural wood grain will typically telegraph through the final finish. As an alternative, you may use particle board or MDF board. For wood surfaces (this includes real butcher block, not laminate that looks like butcher block, and unsealed wood trim or countertops), be sure to apply one or two coats of a good wood primer to the particle board or wood surface before applying the Giani primer. Apply the wood primer with a foam roller for ultra smooth finishes because thicker nap rollers will leave a textured finish.

Q:Odd question. Can i do this over my glass dining and coffee table?

      Answer This Question

A:  Giani is not designed to be used on Glass. You could elect to use a specialty glass primer and then once that cures you could apply the Giani primer. Please note that since we have not tested this we can not cover it by our limited warranty.

Q:Can you add color to the base coat? Tinting?
        by|Sep 19, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  If your local paint professional feels comfortable tinting Giani, you’re welcome to do so. Please note that tinting your Giani will void the limited warranty because we are unable to predict how it will affect the performance of the product. If you were to do this please inform the paint professional that the marble primer is a water based primer.

Q:My countertop back splash where it meets the counter has caulk and not sure if I can remove it as it?s holding it together is there something I can put on the caulk so the paint will stick
            by|Aug 21, 2023
            1 Answer
            Answer This Question

A:  Unfortunately there is not. All caulking will need to be removed. Typically caulking is not what is bonding the backsplash to the surface. It is simply filling the gap between the counter and backsplash. If you expose a gap after removing the caulk, then you will need to seal it with a wood filler.

A:  Honestly I don’t know! It should hold but the high traffic of water and cleaning could compromise the enamel.

Q:Will this product work on formica countertops and if it does how many coats will it require?
                    by|Jul 12, 2023

                    Answer This Question

A:  Yes this kit is designed to work on formica! You will need to follow our standard instruction. Typically two coats of primer is all that is required. This can vary based on how dark your countertop is. The epoxy included in the kit is designed to be applied as a single layer. The epoxy in the kit comes in 3 single sets. A single set is 1 activator and 1 resin can. You mix 1 single set at a time and spread it over no more than 12 sq ft at a time. If you have more technical questions I would recommend reaching out to us through our website.

Q:Can you use this over granite
                      by|Jun 30, 2023

                      Answer This Question

A:  You can absolutely use Giani on your granite countertops! To prep your granite, first dampen a rag and apply a generous layer of xylene or lacquer thinner to remove the sealer. Then, scrub the surface with rubbing alcohol to ensure all residue is removed. Once the alcohol has evaporated you can continue with the standard Giani process. Note: Make sure to follow the xylene or lacquer thinner manufacturer’s safety procedures and extinguish all pilot lights, such as from a gas stove, because xylene and lacquer thinner are very flammable!
