Q:Could you plug this in outside if it was under a screened-in cabana on a wooden deck? For ambiance with flames, and maybe a small amount of heat in evenings? Obviously it would be unplugged and brought in and not left out overnight or in rain.

A: I found that the outside of this heater gets very hot, so if you use it anywhere, make very sure you have it far away from any flammable items.

A: Yes, it's portable, so it should be perfect there.

A: As long as you are smart about it I don't see any reason why not. I might suggest resting it on some ceramic tile so it isn't sitting directly on the wood decking.

A: I just answered this question a few minutes ago, but then I looked in the Owner's manual. Oops. It says not to use a surge protector. I have mine on flame only, so I'm ok using one. But if I turn on the heater function I'll have to plug it into the wall.
by|Feb 29, 2020
A: It probably can. The instructions say to use no extension cords, but a surge protector is probably not what they're thinking of. LOL, I just realized I have mine plugged into a surge protector.

A: Mine did smell a bit of burning for just a short time... probably not even an hour after running it the first time. I haven't had any smell after that initial burning off period...I figured it was like a new oven, or the furnace smell when turning it on after a long summer.
