A: The freeze dryer comes with oil to get started, but you will need to a couple quarts of oil per year. It also comes with an oil filter. You will reuse and recycle the vacuum pump oil. Filtering the oil keeps your vacuum pump happy. It just takes a couple minutes to filter the oil, which has to be done about every 25 to 30 batches.

A: "Pharmaceutical" freeze dryers have more flexibility in the program settings. "Regular" Freeze dryers are capable of the same control settings IF you know how to "flash" the computer.
