Q:Please confirm how much height can be trimmed from this door. I need a door that is exactly 79" high or a little less, and can cut this door down if needed however, but....the documentation says maximum trim is 1/4" per side...and the product description shows: "Door trimmable for custom fit up to 1/4in T, 3/4in B & 1/8in S," which I assume is T = Top, B = Bottom, S = Side. Why the discrepancy in information? Can this door be trimmed to 79" high? Thanks.

A:  I would recommend that you go with a solid door if you are needing to trim the top and side.

A:  JELD-WEN only recommends cutting a quarter of an inch off each edge of the door. While you may choose to trim your door, please note that requests for warranty services could be denied depending on the circumstances affecting product performance. We may be able to provide a custom size to fit your door space, please see your local Home Depot store for ordering and availability. Thank you for letting us assist you.

A:  This door is a hollow core door and is very light weight. Since I have already hung the door I cannot get an actual weight, tho it seemed to be under 25 lbs.

A:  If you are careful, you can trim as much as you want, although Jeld-Wen doesn't recommend it and it might void their warranty. These doors are hollow and the surfaces are very thin (about 2mm thick) fiberboard with a wood veneer. Each end is plugged with a fiberboard rail the width of the door, about an inch tall and about 1 3/4 inches thick, glued inside the veneer. If you trim more than that inch, you will expose the hollow core of the door. So you have to save those rails you cut off each end, and carefully peel the veneer off each side of the rail, and then sand the rail smooth of glue and veneer to prepare it for the next step. (alternatively you could fashion completely new rails out of 2x4 stock). Then you glue the rails back into the hollow space at the top and/or bottom. You might have to chisel away some of the cardboard spacing material inside the door to make room for the rail to slide in. It's not easy but I have done it. The main risk is that when you saw into the hollow part of the door, the veneer can splinter because it is not backed by the rail. To minimize splintering you can put tape over the area where you will cut. Another trick is to use a utility knife to pre-score the veneer along the cut line. If you are using a circular saw, cut with the outside surface of the door toward the saw. If you're using a jigsaw turn the door over and cut with the inside surface toward the saw. Here is a web page that shows how in detail https://woodshms.com/wp/sawing-a-hollow-core-door-to-length/

A:  Looks like 1" is too much. I'm referring to the side edges (hinge and latch) not vertical length (top and bottom). If your application needs more than an inch it's frame time. The bottoms of the door can be cut in excess of 1" then remove the wood from the scrap part to glue into the hollow gap created by the cut. Hope this helps.

A:  The Unfinished Flush Hardwood Interior Door Slab is constructed on pine wood. Please contact your local Home Depot store for ordering and availability in your area. Thank you for your inquiry.

A:  The Jeld Wen answer is useless. If it is constructed of Pine, which is classified as a soft wood, why do they call it a "Hardwood Interior Door Slab". Sure the interior of the hollow core door is made of a pine perimeter and cardboard in the interior, but what is the species of the "hardwood" veneer on the exterior?
