Q:Is this occilating tool variable speed at the trigger?

A:  No, the tool speed is controlled by an adjustment wheel on the side of the handle. There is also an on/off switch to control the operation of the tool. There is no trigger on this tool.

      A:  Hello! This tool delivers 11,000 OPM to 18,000 OPM and is ideal for making flush or plunge cuts, removing grout, sand in corners and tackling other awkward jobs.

        A:  With the right blade, maybe. When used for cutting metal applications most blades do a good job for quick cutting jobs. If the lock is hardened steel I don’t believe this would be the proper tool. For lock cutting you need either a good set of boot cutters or an angle grinder. An oscillating tool is really not made for such uses but with the proper, quality blade you may get the job done with one.
