Q:How long is this seed good? The bag tag says the sale by date is 02/28/2023. I don't want to pay full price for seed that's expired and may have a lousy germination ratio.

A:  The Department of Agriculture says seed is viable 18-24 months from the test date if stored properly, cool and dry. The test date is on the seed tag of the product under the Lot#. You may want to return this bag to the retailer if you haven't opened it.

Q:I just filled up my backyard and payed down topsoil. I just spread this seed on it for the winter time. Will this seed grow by itself and provide grass for the winter? I plan on planting Bermuda on the lawn closer to spring as well

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello! Annual Ryegrass will grow during the cool season when daytime temperatures are 60 to 75 degrees during the day and at least 50 degrees at night. As with all grass seed, proper care does need to be provided – prepping the soil, watering, mowing. Ryegrass will die out in the summer, when daytime temperatures are consistently above 85 degrees. This will allow your Bermuda to take over during the warmer growing season.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Hello! All grasses grow seed when allowed to grow tall enough. Grass seed is harvested much the same way other seed crops are; the seed is planted, the grass grows throughout the year and then when they product seed, that seed is harvested at the right time of year.
