    Answer This Question

A:  We try to keep the assembly to a minimum with having to assemble the handles and wheels on the unit.

    by|Apr 7, 2020

A:  Just unfold the handle, tighten the handle locking nuts, add gas and oil, and voila!

      by|Apr 7, 2020

A:  Trust me when I say I hate putting things together. I just pay people usually. but this was just the handles and wheels. That was it. Took 10 minutes.

A:  Hello AL, Thank you for asking this question. The air filter element for the Powermate Tiller is A101172. Home Depot does not have this filter available. You can do an internet search on it, and you can find it. It is a common filter unit. I hope this helps. Thank you for your question. Thank you Home Depot for giving me the ability to help. A:  Dear Al, It looks like a 'proprietary' filter, ie non-standard. I ordered two for the parts manual that you can download and their service center. The metal top and bottom are bonded to the filter and the stamping on the metal is the engine mfg, ie not a Fram or other brand. Now with one in hand I may try to find a non-oem but not for awhile. OEM PN is A101172. MAT Parts phone: 731-660-8130 (TN). Here is the link for your parts manual- if I were you I would download and print it or at least save manual to your computer in case the mfg no longer posts it at some point. Be well!

Q:Does anyone else's Powermate tiller make a screeching sound coming from the transmission when going forward? Bought one brand new yesterday and am pretty concerned about it. Reverse works fine with no sound when engaging. Nothing mentioned in troubleshooting section of owners manual so I figured I'd ask others before contacting Powermate.

A:  Please contact our product services team at 800.737.2112 as it sounds like you may need a new belt. Our Product services team will get you a belt sent out right away and that noise should stop.

            by|Apr 3, 2020

A:  This tiller doesn't utilize a belt (it's gear driven). I'll contact customer support. Thank you for the heads up ELPTX! I plan on using premium and will be replacing with new fuel at the beginning of each season after being stored during the winter because I know first hand how terrible E85 is on small engines (or any engine for that matter).

              by|Apr 3, 2020

A:  Yes. I used it heavily last year. When I started to plow my furrows for my garden this year I heard the sound. I ran up my my local auto store and purchased a container of Lucas Heavy Duty gear oil. It resolved the issue. I also changed the oil to be safe. Gentle heads up. Always run premium gasoline in your equipment. My neighbor has had issues with all his power equipment. When we talked I told him that I run premium. He tried it and many of his ongoing problems were solved.

Q:Can the times be adjusted closer? How can I get a finer dirt?

                      Answer This Question

A:  The tines on the Powermate PRTT212 Rear Tine Tiller are not adjustable. To obtain more finely tilled dirt you will need to run the tiller across your garden plot more than once. If this is a new plot, it is recommended that you till in a cross hatch pattern. This will produce the best result in breaking up the soil and any grass or other plant growth. Following the crosshatch tilling and removal of the unwanted grass, etc. one last pass with the tiller will provide the perfect rows for planting.

A:  Mike, Thank you for asking your question. While you cannot adjust the tines closer, here is what you do to get the dirt finer. Till the soil the length of your garden. Then till the garden cross-wise. Then till the garden again length wise. This will ensure your soil is totally tilled and the dirt clods are broken up and reduced. I know this takes a little more time, but it gets the job done and gives you finer soil. I hope this answers your question. Thank you Home Depot for giving me the opportunity to help Mike out. Q:How does it compare to a Troy build tiller

                          Answer This Question

A:  First: I don't own or have used the TroyBuilt tiller. I compared and for my use, "occasional" the 50% more cost, horsepower and reviews all taken into consideration, I went with the Powermate. I saw it last year at $100 less and at that point all the others were twice the price. TroyBuilt is good stuff (at least in the past) but I am not a commercial user. Some minor nits that I covered in my online review but I am pleased.

A:  Troy Bilt has many options for tillers. Looking directly at the Troy Bilt 18" Rear Tine Tiller, the engine size is 208cc OHV 4 cycle and the Powermate is 212 cc OHV 4 cycle. The Troy Bilt unit does have more tines over the Powermate. They both have assembly required, power reverse and are self-propelled. Powermate does have Adjustable Forward speed and a foldable handle for easy storage. In regards to product weight comparison, the Troy Bilt is over 100 lbs more in weight. There is also a few hundred dollars cost difference. There are many little differences between the two all the way down to the gas tank sizes with Powermate at .825 in size vs. Troy Bilt is at .5 in size.

A:  Yes. These tillers are much easier to handle than front-tine tillers. The tiller does the work; you just guide it.

A:  Yes, this unit can be used by anyone. However, this unit is not meant to be picked up by one individual as it is a heavy item.

A:  Yes, you can make multiple passes and add deeper increments. Turning requires practice, adequate strength, and planning. Tight pivot turns are impossible.

A:  154 pounds. It is an easy 2 man lift in. It is front weighted and I didn’t want to do it alone. My HD has ramps for the bigger rentals maybe you could borrow or rent them? Another idea i’ve done with motorcycles is to back into a banking and then lower your tailgate to ramp in into the bank. Takr’ er easy partner, we’re only going this way once!
