A: Happy to help Mike. While Rust-Oleum Universal Advanced Formula Spray Paint dries to a hard durable surface. For high tough objects like doorknobs we recommend a clear coat be applied for added protection. The clear we recommend is Rust-Oleum Universal Advanced Formula Clear Spray.

A: If your doorknob and deadbolt are bare metal, you might consider using a Rust-Oleum bare metal primer prior to this product. It will help with adhesion. 2 or 3 additional coats would be great, and a clear coat would not be necessary. If your doorknobs and deadbolts are already painted, 2 or 3 coats would also eliminate the need for a clear coat.
