Q:Can it be used in double thickness

Answer This Question

A:  I can’t see why not.  It would constrict water flow.  It’s purpose is to allow water to pass as soil not too. However, it is a very good product single thickness.  We covered a trench of gravel over leach field pipe.

Q:Can this be used under cement slab for a patio

A:  Yes, as far as I know, since this is designed to keep the surrounding soil from filling in around the drainage pipe, which would block the water from filtering through the gravel and into the pipe. Hope this helps.

A:  Yes but I would use a heavier barrier or plastic under the concrete per codes

A:  This landscaping fabric is very fragile and is easily torn. I would not recommend using this fabric for an underlayment for concrete. This fabric is better used as a soil separator such as for a French drain system, a water catch basin, or for covering landscaping plants.

Q:With a perforated drain pipe added to extend a downspout underground, can the soil separator be used to simply wrap the pipe in trench to keep holes from clogging

A:  Yes.  This is a very similar product to what is on drain tile that comes with the sock.   Make sure it’s weighted down (rock is best), otherwise it could move around while backfilling with a machine.

A:  Yes but you need two either run a really long pipe underground for the water to go, or dig a dry well for the water.

A:  I don’t know.  I think it would work initially but eventually would clog from debris washed down from the gutters.

A:  The material isn't so much to prevent clogging but to creates a surround extending beyond the pipe of clean gravel. The more surface area the longer the life, and I actually used two rolls for my drain to so I could set one on each side and fill with gravel between. Directly against the pipe would place soil against and basically close the holes from the start.

A:  That’s exactly what I did, except with small stone in between. Soil separator, stone, pipe and then wrap it. I’m sure other people do french drains differently but this was simppe.

Q:The ditch is dug. Do I put the "separator" in the ditch add the rock 8" underneath the pipe, put the rest of the rock on top of the pipe and the cover it with soil?

                      Answer This Question

A:  I put the soil separator in the ditch, carefully added the stone, laid the pipe, topped with additional stone then wrapped the fabric over that stone to prevent the dirt you put on top from filtering down into the stone and pipe.

A:  The mfg states : "We guarantee Soil Separator for as long as the pipe and sock are in the ground out of direct sunlight. The fabric should last around 100 years out of direct sunlight"

                        Answer This Question

A:  It will work, but not sure for how long. It is a really thin material so I think it is going to break down relatively quickly. Also, it tears easily if there are any roots. We ended up buying a thicker, more durable landscaping fabric for our project.
