Thank you for your inquiry. Sound tests comparing USG Sheetrock Firecode X 5/8" to USG Sheetrock EcoSmart Firecode X 5/8" found the STC (sound transmission class) to be comparable. There is not a significant difference in the acoustical properties of both boards. Remember that the overall composition of the wall or floor/ceiling can affect the STC, including the size and spacing of the framing, whether or not there is insulation and whether resilient channels were used.
