Q:I accidentally put one coat on my floors instead of your floor polyurethane. Can I apply right over this or do I need to sand or take other measures? Thank you

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help! Since once only 1 coat of Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane was applied it does not need to be removed. We recommend scuff sanding the surface using 60-80 grit sandpaper and then applying our Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Floor Finish.

Q:VOC content (grams/ liter) should be listed on the side of the can. It would be great if I didn't have to drive to the store to read the label. It's not in the SDS, and it's not in the specification. It would be great if this information was online.

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, Andrew. If the VOC is not specified on the product it is the full VOC version of the product. Each liter of Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane has 270 grams of VOCs. Please note this is shown on the SDS under volatile organic compounds (VOC).

Q:Would this protect against UV/Air exposure on Purple Heart Hardwood pieces from losing it Color.
by|Aug 16, 2024

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out. While Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane provides a protective coating, it will not protect against UV. This will cause the polyurethane to yellow and haze. Instead, we recommend applying our Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Spar Urethane as it provides excellent UV protection.

Q:Would a water based polyurethane protect a sisal rug from water and stains?
by|Aug 13, 2024

Answer This Question
A: We appreciate your interest, Joan! Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Ultimate Polyurethane is intended for use on wood surfaces only. We do not recommend it for use on rugs, as this polyurethane cures to a hard finish, and it will crack and peel as the surface bends and flexes. This is also not a floor-grade coating. At this time, we do not offer a coating for this type of application.

Q:CAN I USE THE PRODUCT FOR WOODEN FLOORS?
by|Aug 9, 2024

Answer This Question
A: According to the response they left on a previous question, no, it cannot be used on hardwood floors as it lacks a chemical to prevent peeling that would be caused by foot traffic.
by|Aug 12, 2024
A: Happy to help, Angel. While Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane provides a durable coating for wooden surfaces, it can not be applied to floors. The foot traffic will cause the polyurethane to crack and peel. Instead, we recommend applying our Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Floor Finish as it is specifically formulated to withstand the wear of foot traffic.
