A: I would recommend that you use one screw to secure it to the post / pvc sleeve. We put one screw on ours and they stay on great. That way, it is easy to remove / replace the Cap.

A: Just use a dab of clear pvc cement ( pencil eraser size) to hold it on so if replacement is needed in the future it can be taken off with minimal effort

A: No! It’s very ridged. You could probably place the topper inside your post and screw it in place.

A: for 4x4 but prob would stay

A: It’s really made to go over the 4x4 vinyl post which is in turn made to go over a 3 5/8 wood post. You could probably screw it directly to a wood post but it wouldn’t fit snuggly.

A: My 4” posts measure about 3 7/8” or 3 15/16” (hard to tell because of rounded corners). The opening in the cap is 4”. That means you would have a 3/16” gap all the way around. You could probably get it to stay on the post by applying generous amounts of PVC glue all around the top of the post, or by using some shim material, but then it becomes a question of how good it would look. If this is to replace a broken, out of the way cap, I might do it. If it’s for new caps for the entire fence, I would get the right size, even if it costs a little more.
