Q:How many years will this last? Assuming a string trimmer is used to trim the grass right next to it for 30 cuts a season. The same line/area will be hit every time. Will the plastic crack? Will the string start to wear the plastic away after each time?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi there Kevin and thank you for your question about the Vigoro Heavy-Duty Plastic Landscape Edging. The edging will start to wear away after each use with a sting trimmer. Most of our customers are able to string trim around their edging for several years before it wears significantly. We hope this helps.

Q:How do I install this edging as tree rings? Which work best; stakes or spikes?

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi there and thank you for asking about the Vigoro Heavy-Duty Plastic Landscape Edging. This product is a dig-in edging, installed by digging a trench. Please keep in mind, that for mature trees, this type of edging is not recommended, as it could damage the established root system. For established trees, we recommend using a No-Dig style edging that will not interfere with the tree roots. For trees that can withstand a dig-in edging ring, allow enough room around the tree to avoid digging into the roots. Once that distance is determined, measure the circumference around the area of the tree where the ring will be installed, allowing at least 2-3 feet from the trunk (completely around the tree) to avoid shallow roots. Add 4” to the total length (this will be used to connect the ends of the edging once installed). Cut the edging to the length needed and install according to the product instructions. To close the circle, cut approx. 4” of the bead off the top of one side of edging, overlap the edges so the beads touch at the top and the wall of the edging ends overlap closely. Then stake through the wall of both ends. Thank you for your question, we hope this helps.
