A:  Home Depot DOES carry 12" drilled panels (actually 11 & fraction inch) in store. In the search box paste: Internet #202088834 , and it will bring up the "12 in." width of the melamine drilled panel. It should be the first item in the search results.

A:  Roger, thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Melamine is not necessarily less expensive than wood shelving. You can get the pros and cons for melamine on Google, just type in wood versus melamine for information. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

A:  I attached the side panels with non drilled shelves using 2" wood screws. You can screw from top and bottom into the sides or from both sides top and bottom depending on where you want the unfinished edges to show. Just remember to account for the extra 1-1/2" side to side or top to bottom for the width of the two attached panels depending on which direction you attach them. To give extra strength and allow for free standing of the bookcase, screw one shelf in a permanent location about midway and then attach 1/8" backing board to the backside with finishing nails or wood screws. I prefer screws because they do not wiggle out or pull out of the back. This made a very sturdy bookcase for my daughter's room.
