Ripped paint off baseboards & crown moulding!!
I bought this tape (even though it was more expensive than other brands) specifically because it advertised "Advanced Edge-Lock for super sharp paint lines". By the time I was taping the 2nd half of the room, the 1st half was peeling away from the wall, so I had to go back and press it down again. I had the tape in place less than 36 hours and when I removed it, it took the paint right off the baseboards & trim!! I've NEVER had that happen, even when using the cheapest brand. Now I have to paint all the trim, which I hadn't planned on doing. VERY disappointed!!!

I bought this product even though it was more expensive than other brands specifically because it advertises "sharp lines on trim & baseboards". I've done a lot of painting over the years and this is by far the poorest tape I've ever used. By the time I was taping the 2nd side of the room, the first side was peeling away from the wall, so I had to go back and press it all down again. THEN, I don't know if the glue gets stickier as it sits (used and removed within 36 hours), when I removed the tape it removed the paint from the baseboards & crown moulding!! Now I have to repaint those. I'm definitely contacting Scotch about this product!!

      WORST PAINTER'S TAPE EVER!!!!!!
I am extremely dissatisfied with the Scotch Blue 2093EL tape. When removing the tape, it not only pulled most of the paint around the edges, but it also ripped off paint from my ceiling. This means sanding, priming, painting the walls again!! Plus the ceiling now needs to be painted!!!! I can't imagine that this product was tested - after reading other reviews I hope this company reformulates this product because it STINKS and is going to cost me a lot more time and money to get a simple project completed.

        So frustrating!
We bought this tape to use to protect the baseboards when painting and to use to make the accent stripes on two walls. It has been so frustrating. It does NOT stick, more accurately it does not STAY stuck to the walls. We spent several hours measuring, chalking and taping the stripes only to come over this morning to paint and find half of it coming off the walls. We ended up using a competitors product because it works, stays stuck, and doesn't fall the walls. Frustrating experience and leaves us with several rolls of tape we don't trust to use.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My boyfriend bought this tape to do his bedroom and when we pealed it off it started ripping the paint off. He now has to spend more money on paint and redo his whole room because of this tape!! I would not recommend this product to anyone!!

Thank you for taking the time to post your picture and leave your review. We would not expect paint pull from wood or walls as long as the paint it was placed on was 30 days old or older. When damages do occur we would ask customers contact our team for assistance at 1.800.537.9514 M-F 8am-5pm CT. Please know we will be sending you a direct e-mail offering further assistance.
            Pulled off flat satin paint
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought the 2093EL from your standard box store...we applied to our walls with the hope of creating clean lines between other walls and the ceiling. All the walls (including ceiling) were previously professionally painted about two weeks ago. We tackled what we thought was an "easy room". We prepped the walls, taped, primed, then began painting. The tape was on the wall ~30hours and on the ceiling maybe 6 hours. In the photos are the result of taking the tape off (with using a scoring knife). The walls had the prior paint taken off near the edges, the ceiling pretty much any surface the tape touched. The ceiling had no texture and just a regular flat, white interior latex paint. Pretty disappointed since we just had the ceilings and other walls professional painted...

              Disappointed!
We bought this tape for the first time. We have used other brands in the past, but thought we'd give 3m a try given their good reputation for other products we have used. Put the tape up last night so we'd be ready to paint first thing in the morning, only to wake up to this! That's just not right. Never had this problem before!

EDGE LOCK? I DON'T THINK SO - GARBAGE
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] bought this tape specifically for the "edge lock" so we could get nice crisp lines but ended up with lots of bleed through and the tape peeling up before i even finished. Surface is a textured painted wall in the living room, surface was prepped (dusted and wiped before taping) and tape was laid flat not pulled tight. Then I went over the edge again, making sure to push the tape firmly to seal the edge against the texture. By the time I got to the other end of the wall - (30 mins) the tape was peeling up from the edge, I reapplied pressure to the edge of the tape but still got bleed through. I ended up correcting the problem by simply cutting in the edge by hand - this tape is garbage. Definitely not worth their premium price - the cheap masking tape works best, lesson learned.

                    Caused Damage
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For some reason this tape either ripped the paint off my trim, or when I was trying to remove the tape, the tape would rip where there was paint on it. Then, I had to pick at the remaining tape and break my nails to get it off. At one point I had to use a razor blade to get the remaining tape off. We just had our windows and trim professionally painted, so now it all needs fixed. Never again. I went online to see if maybe this type of tape wasn't supposed to be used on trim, but it clearly states that it works great on trim and doesn't cause damage.

                      EdgeLock let us down
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We tried the orange and the green Scotch blue. The tape that stayed on the wall bled, even though we pressed the tape tightly against the wall. The green tape and the orange tape didn't even stick to the wall where we had 2 colors meeting in a corner.

                        Useless
taping the baseboards and as quickly as its placed it pops off. Terribly disappointing product that we paid a premium for. The old no name blue tape for a buck is sticking like a dream.

Pulled ceiling paint off with tape removal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Throughout all the painting jobs in my house I have never used painters tape as I have a pretty steady hand and didn't see the need for it. I used some on one painting project and liked the incredibly straight line it produced. I purchased this product for a kitchen remodel we just undertook and used it throughout the kitchen, dining room, and as of today hallway & stairs. I am so disappointed in it, I will not recommend this product to anyone! I painted the kitchen and dining room about a month ago and used the tape for between the walls & ceiling; when I removed the tape within about 48 hours, a few sections of the ceiling paint removed with the tape. Thinking maybe I had waited too long last time I purchased a new roll and attempted it again on a hallway with stairs project. I placed the tape between the wall and ceiling this morning and then followed with the first coat of paint. The second coat of paint was laid this afternoon, and then this evening I removed the tape. While the line between the wall and ceiling looks great, I literally have sections of my ceiling paint down to the drywall paper that removed with the tape! I don't expect 3M to do anything about this nor am I seeking any compensation for this issue, but I do want others to know that this product sticks TOO well and will damage the wall/ceiling by removing the paint underneath when you remove the tape. I selected this product due to being a quality brand; 3M, please consider revamping this product. Thank you.

took the paint off my walls!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I painted my walls with a good paint, TWO WEEKS later I taped the walls to paint the ceilings, the tape was on the wall for abut an hour on each area. When I took the tape off it peeled the paint from my wall in most spots. Rather large spots at that! Here are just two small areas that I took pictures of.

Read the Poor Reviews because they are correct
Does not stick. I did the baseboards and chair rail of my dining room. I had 2 rolls of different brand tapes that had a few yards leftover in them, so I used those up first. Then I went out and bought the 3M Advanced Multi Surface tape SPECIFICALLY designed for trim to finish the job. Big mistake. I didn't have time to paint the same night I taped and planned to paint the next day. To my big surprise, I walked in the room the next morning to find the 3M product peeling back or simply not sticking in many places. meanwhile my frog tape and the other cheapy non-brand name stuff I used up were still perfectly in place. All the trim was prepped the same: dusted, cleaned, and dried so there is no excuse for this. I wasted my time and my money buying this product and will never use it again.

This called "Edge Lock tape" is not working at all. The truth is out there, just reference my photos. It is easy to see the tape is not sticky to the wall and lift off by itself. The only thing I would like to say to your quality department is : Please focus on your product quality and reliability. If the qualification results can not meet your production specification, please stop calling "Edge-Lock" Thanks.

I purchased Scotch Blue #2093EL for the first time. I was in the final stages of completing an art cabinet for my daughter, which included numerous colors. I painstakingly put the tape on 4 drawers fronts for her to paint. When the paint was dry, I removed the tape. I noticed that most of the edges had a very thin blue line remaining. The tape is falling apart. What a pain in the butt. I don't know how I am going to remove all of these little pieces of tape. I might have to sand the whole thing and start over. GRRRRHHH!

                                      TERRIBLE PRODUCT
This product ruined all the hard work I put in doing drywall and sanding and painting. It would not come off easily at all. I basically had to scrape it off with a razor blade and screw driver. Removed paint from a corner that had been painted over a year prior. But worse than all of that is that it ruined the finish of my brand new cabinets. The tape peeled the finish right off. I was so upset and cried about it for hours.

First time painting lines on our walls. We were afraid that paint would bleed onto other lines however, we were astonished after seeing how well the 3M Locked Edge blue tape worked. It eliminated one step (the caulking of the edges) saving us valuable time. The lines turned out crisp and sharp. Thanks

                                              The overall experience was ok
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this tape to create a design on my walls. Although the design turned out well, the tape removed some of the previous paint and drywall paper, causing me to have to touch up a lot of areas by hand. In hindsight, I still would have used scotch blue, because it does give very clean lines, but might have tried the delicate surface variety.

                                                Perfect for any project!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Edge-Lock tape was absolutely perfect for the project I recently completed which required precision and it held up to all of the drips with no leaking through. I will be using this again and again and highly recommend it for everything from basic craft/DIY projects to more advanced painting. Thank you!

What exactly does the tape "lock" out? Cuz it's clearly not paint!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used this tape to tape around our crown molding and trim, and could not have been more disappointed when we pulled it off. We used your average latex paint and primer in one, and it had bled under the edges and our room looks TERRIBLE. It looks like we will now need to repaint all of our crown molding and trim and repaint all of our edges. Something we had not planned to do.. now there will be a whole lot of extra time and money we have to spend because of the failure of this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this product for so many things, but most recently it performed beautifully on very textured concrete! Perfectly crisp and beautiful lines... LOVE!

                                                      Tape didn't pull off cleanly
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The tape didn't perform as stated. It pulled off the painted surface and the paper backing on the drywall. The surface that pulled had received two coats of paint and the tape was left on 2 days.

                                                        Just Terrible
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 1. It seemed to suck paint under the tape, so I got paint in my carefully prepped, just-refinished hardwood floors. 2. It pulled the paint off the 24-hours dry, freshly painted wall I applied it to. 3. It bonded to the wet paint applied and pulled off the new paint when I removed the tape. 4. It also pulled the paint off my sanded, deglossed, and primed furniture. Very badly. I thought it was the primer, until I did my walls. I believe I followed all the instructions, cleaning surfaces, firmly applying and pressing down tape, and removing tape after 1.5-2 hours. 3 very bad, very frustrating experiences. I am by no means a pro, but the painting I did with the regular scotch blue turned out fine. It's too expensive to be this terrible.
