Same experience as others. After applying spackle, the whole thing fell into the wall. Unreachable. Would like a refund.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed something to patch a hole left by a doorknob being pushed into sheetrock so I went searching and found this 3M repair product. I wasn't sure about the consistency or how it would dry but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. It's almost clay like but looser than that and it went over the hole smoothly. It covers up to 5 inches and luckily I didn't need to use it all. I already sanded out the rough parts and painted over the spot (and added a doorstop) and it's nearly inconceivable to the naked eye. I'm glad this product exists and will seek it out for future projects.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is easy to use this product. Its thick consistency helps to adhere very well to most surfaces. If you follow the instructions for correct applying, you will get work well done. It takes a while to dry but once dry, it is very hard and sturdy. How I used it, is first I took sandpaper and scraped in to make a smooth surface. I applied tape to get the perfect patch. Applied the product. Leveled it wih a metal scraper and let it dry. I left it overnight (even though I didn't have too) so that it dries well. Then I used the sand paper again to smoothen it out. And done! Great product for DIY and you can save some expenses with it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used it for a hole about 4"x2". It was fast drying, and had a strong hold. I can tell it will hold longer than other options I have tried. It works for interior and exterior holes. It works for drywall, plaster, stucco, concrete, and wood. It is extremely easy to use and apply.

This is by far the best drywall hole repair remedy you can buy. It is the good stuff. The only additional thing needed is a clear dry time range ,after application, to be stated on the container because while “…5x FASTER…” is eye catching and appealing, it is not a common way to state a dry time range. Or maybe add the longer dry time that is being referenced?

The product it’s amazing, I bought one kit and the hole was decent sized, One kit was more than enough, the hardest part? The time that you have to wait to let it dry... first time fixing a hole in the wall and I felt like a Pro!!

The original homeowner had a 24" ceiling medallion under the original chandelier. When I removed the medallion, there was a hole where the original electrical box was. They had moved it but didn't bother to fix it. After a few choice words, I went to HD website and found this kit. I also purchased a texture spray to match my ceiling. I read other reviews about not adhering so I vacuumed the back drywall to be sure it was clean and dust free. I I did dry fit the plastic screen first. When I folded it to fit in the hole, the screen cracked. It surprised me but then realized that's how you can trim to fit. The adhesive tape kept it together. The plaster was easy to use and didn't sag from the ceiling. I filled the hole completely. I waited 14 hours before sanding it. Then I primed it with Kilz. After another hour, I sprayed the texture, primed again, and then two coats of paint. This was easy to use with everything you need included.

I like this product, but it is impossible to keep unused portions from drying out because of the dumb, dumb, dumb packaging. Lid never fit once it was opened. At this price point, could we please get a more suitable container????

The best filler I have ever found. I had large holes in the kitchen celling drywall from an old light fixture. I had limited time for repair. Other products were sagging out and the texture of this product held firm without falling to the floor. The quick dry time had me finishing sanding, adding texture and painting day 2. Few products perform as advertised. 3M large hole wall repair kit absolutely does. This product repaired a pair of 3 inch holes left in a bathroom wall by a torqued-out curved shower curtain- and one literally cannot see the repair. The compound is superb, easy to work, and sands like a dream. If one follows the directions carefully- it's fail-proof. If I can do it, anyone can. The quality of your repair will only be limited by the paint match you will be able to achieve.

First off let me say that I was not able to completely properly use this product, as I have no large holes in any of my walls, nor did anyone else that I know. What I did, however, is test it on various picture frame and shelving mount holes. That being said, this wall repair kit is about as simple as you can get for repairs! Upon opening the packaging, everything is ready for you to use. No real prep work required, other than preparing your work area, and cleaning the holes. This kit comes with the ready to use sheet rock tub, wide spread applier, a large wall patch, and small sanding brick. There are also easy to understand step-by-step instructions, and pictures as well. Sanding down the edges of the holes was simple, although the sanding sponge is a little flimsy for bigger applications. Applying the sheet rock was easy, and relatively mess free, and when it dried, was nice and firm. While I was not able to use it for a huge hole, it did the job for many small/medium holes.

We had moved our garage door opener control inside the laundry room but it left a hole in the garage wall where it had been previously. Typically it’s my husband or son who does the drywall work around the house, but I wanted to take care of this one myself. Having no experience I was hoping a kit would be the best way for me to get my feet wet. This kit made it very easy for me to repair that hole and finish the wall “good as new” (or as close as I was gonna get anyway). The instructions were clear and I was able to finish the patch in a relatively short period of time. It does have to dry overnight before painting and the plastic piece is a bit difficult to cut. I don’t think it was intended to be cut, but I didn’t want to make the hole bigger to accommodate the plastic piece.

I loved the idea of this kit in theory, but I had trouble actually using it. I had a hole to repair in my kids' bathroom (4 year old thought you could hang off towel ring like gym equipment...) The plastic grid that you insert into the hole to flatten against it to provide a backing for the spackle is very firm. It does fold into thirds, but if the hole isn't the perfect size it's a bit awkward to work into the hole since it's not flexible plastic. Before you work it into the hole, you pull of the backing on the sticky strips which are meant to adhere to the back of the dry wall. The problem is that if you fold the grid onto itself to fit it in the hole you risk getting it stuck against itself. And then, even though I wiped away the dust as much as possible, there was still some on the back of the drywall. Some of it got onto the sticky strips and then they lost their stickiness. In the end, when I pulled on the long strips meant to brace the grid against the back of the drywall, it didn't adhere. I ended up leaving the grid in the wall rather than doing more damage trying to remove it. I used the piece of tape that was supplied to cover a hole in the grid to help patch the hole in the wall. I used the spackle provided which I really liked! I would buy that again. It was lightweight and very malleable, easy to apply and smooth. It dried much quicker than regular spackle and sanded nicely. Even though the kit didn't work like it as supposed to, in the end I was pleased with the repair job thanks to the spackle.

This product comes with a plastic mesh patch that folds up to fit in the hole. The patch sticks to the inside of the wall rather than the outside meaning the patch won't work over a wall stud. The patch measures about 5.5 inches so it will easily cover a 5 inch hole. I was able to get a nice smooth wall repair with this product. I was always frustrated with the traditional wall patches that stick on the outside of the wall. I felt you could always see a slight lump on the wall and also you could see the mesh tape a lot of the time. With the other products, the project would take a considerable amount of drying time having to put layer after layer of drywall mud over the patch to hide the mesh tape. With this product mounting on the inside, you save a lot time because you can get a nice smooth finish in much less time using the filling compound. To help the tape stick better I actually cleaned the inside of the hole and let it dry before installing the patch.

We ordered the 3M Large Hole Wall Repair Kit to repair a large hole in our garage and I got mixed results. We would only conditionally recommend it. If you would like more information on what worked as well as what we had problems with please read on. We followed the instructions and cleaned the hole of all loose materials including the back side of the wall board. When we tried using the 6in. self-adhesive back plate it would not adhere to the wall board. We tried several times (see photo.) We opted then to use 2in. backer board seam tape to form a mesh screen over the hole (see photo). That worked well and we found the provided tub of wall repair compound to be a light weight, excellent product to complete the repair. The rest of the items provided such as the plastic putty knife and sanding pad were also helpful. We have provided photos of the actual repair. We hope this helps those interested.

Includes everything you need to repair a larger hole in your wall, so no need to buy a knife, spackle and sandpaper separately. We recently wainscoted our dining room walls and one of the outlets landed inside the box. I preferred a clean look and so relocated the elec box to below the wainscoting. I removed the elec box from inside the wall which left a nice sized hole needing repair. This repair kit was the perfect fix. Followed the simple steps, prime, and paint and the only person who can tell it was repaired is me. I know I could have sanded it down more but I'm not a wall-pro so i would have been sanding and spackling over and over to get it absolutely perfect. The wainscoting takes attention away from the repair and once painted no one can tell unless I point it out. I will definitely use this again on future repairs.

This is a very handy kit for repairing a hole in drywall such as a where a door knob has punched a hole in the wall. The backing plate in the kit is six inches so you could repair a much larger hole than a door knob. I repaired a hole from a door knob, the backing plate folds up so it is easy to get into the hole and then it stays in place with self adhesive strips on each side. The most time consuming part is sanding the putty down, then I used a spray wall texture made by Homax I purchaced at Home Depot, painted the repaired area and it looks pretty good.
