After I installed a couple of the caps and got to the center of the box they were in pieces. The edge molding had separated and the staples were rusted - staining the wood. Also, the surface finish is very rough and will require a great deal of sanding.

Dear HomeDepotCustomer, ProWood is sorry to hear this post cap did not meet your expectations. Treated wood is typically still wet when it's delivered to our retailers. As wood dries, it may split, cup and warp, which are natural occurrences of wood. Pressure-treatment protects wood from insects and rot. To protect your post cap from the elements, we recommend using a semitransparent stain or a sealant which contains a water repellant and an ultraviolet stabilizer. The stabilizer will not prevent eventual discoloration to a weathered appearance, but it will slow the process down. Believe the Bad Reviews
Since there were a few reviews of these post caps that were positive, and hoping to save money, I went ahead and ordered two 6 packs. I should have believed the bad reviews. Only 2 out of 12 were at all usable (and those would have required a ton of caulk), but every one of them was defective in some way. All had gaps where the mitered corners were supposed to meet, but most of the gaps were HUGE. Also, some of the tops (including the two that had smaller gaps) had very jagged edges on the tops where chunks of wood had been ripped away. I've started the return process. I don't know why Home Depot would sell such an inferior product as evidenced in these reviews.

i ordered 18 IE (3 packs of 6) they came loose in the box.when i got to installing them i should have paid more attention upon receipt. many of the remaining were also in poor shape.... namely the top cuts. there are wood tear outs that lead me to believe the tool that was being used to cut them had gone dull. many of the tear outs a deep and as much as a 1/2 in wide. i cant sand them out as the top detail is only 1/4 in depth. it was disappointing to say the least.

Worked great
Used these on a new fence I built. I was going to make my own till I saw these and for the price it was a no brainer. Fit perfectly on my 6x6 pt posts.

Came in pieces / reassembly required
Three of the six were decent. Three had fallen apart at the corners and from the main top piece. They are basically nice, however very poorly constructed. The box was undamaged so it wasnt an obvious shipping issue, the little corner brackets just werent installed well enough and are probably not really big enough to hold them sufficiently together. Same with the little tac hardware / staples? that hold the corner edging to the main top piece. I was going to return them, but as it came as a set of 6 and 3 were okay, I just rebuilt them.

Quality?
These are not good quality. I took the first set back because they were incredibly rough hewn for post caps. When I received the second set…same thing! The trim is loose on every post cap. I won’t be buying these again.

The tops are very poorly made. They don’t look professionally done. Some pieces were falling off. Very rough woodworking. Not recommended.

terrible post caps
Product came in pretty bad shape weathered sun marks and the top flat part was all split out at the corners and the miters around the base were all not tight it just does not look like picture.

They where in pretty rough shape and had chewed marks...
They where in pretty rough shape and had chewed marks from the saw. Was not happy but couldn’t find a different kind so I puddy and sanded the best I could so I could finish the project.

4 of the 6 were in good condition -- the...
4 of the 6 were in good condition -- the other two needed to have the bottom part adjusted. I simply removed and nailed back on. Most of them were smooth, 2-3 of them appeared rough cut (perhaps the tooling to make them was dull). Overall worked well enough. They look great on the 6x6 posts.

The quality of these post caps is the worst I’ve every seen. Rough, jagged router edges, mitered pieces don’t make contact. Another let down by Home Depot.

False advertising
Dimensions said they fit a 6x6 post. They did not even come close. They came a half inch short.. as in 5.5 x 5.5.
Do not order these!!!

Poorly constructed and not square so they do not fit...
Poorly constructed and not square so they do not fit a 6”x6” (5 1/2 x 5 1/2 actual) without hammering down and ripping open the mitered trim edges on the cap. Roughly cut and required heavy sanding to make usable. These will not last very long. If able, spend more and buy composite caps.

Post caps were rough cut. Had not been sanded. Mitered cuts on corners did not align and were gaps on cut edges. Post cap was put together so poorly that it did not fit over our 6x6 post. Returned items to my local store and even the cashiers said they couldn't believe how awful they were and couldn't believe that this would be sold by Home Depot. Im no professional, but I can cut better angles and assemble wood pieces better than whoever made these post caps. DONT BUY!

The 6x6 Wood Flat Fancy post cap did not fit 6x6 post. When tried to force on they would not go on and warped after leaving in sun after one day. Returned for refund and bought more expensive ones,

With all due respect, I was thoroughly disappointed in my purchase. In fact, the Home Depot associate helping me appeared in poor workmanship of the product I purchased. The only reason I did not refuse the product is the delay I endured just getting it delivered.Not a very happy customer.

Very disappointed in quality of the produce. Joints were open. Finish was very rough. I installed them as a temporary fix, but I will have to find another product to buy and replace these.
