This vent had a larger amount of free air exhaust that I wanted. The powder coating finish was very good. I am a bit disappointed in the metal gauge. The review saying the vent was constructed of a heavy guage metal was inaccurate. A minor hail stone is likely to do substantial damage.

Stack replacement
The unit replaced a small potbelly fireplace stack. Covered the existing roof hole and immediately reduced the attic temp over the den. Wish had bought it sooner.

From a professional engineer's perspective....
1. "Active Ventilation" is the name of the company that makes the product. yes the Home Depot site could make that more clear in their description
2. This is the largest open area vent I was able to find that was not powered, whirly-bird, and not a general eyesore.
3. This product is installed in Texas
Ok, so I bought this product for the large open area. I have a hip roof, and recently added a radiant barrier to the attic space (under sheathing). A vent this size is a must for hip roofs so that you have a minimum number of penetrations in the roof to get the required ventilation.
There are those who swear by powered ventilation for the attic, but the reality is that blocking the radiant (in the south) and allowing air to come in at the soffit and exhaust at the ridge is the best, most cost effective, most efficient method of handling the cooling of an attic.
Case in point, house built in the 80's, radiant barrier, vented soffit around the whole house, vent duct (to keep an opening through the insulation) a full ridge vent and 3 of these vents, (using a standard ventilation to attic space of 300 square inches of ventilation per 1000 sf attic space) and we are saving nearly 15% on the electric bill.

works great
bought 2 from company painted color I needed .these vents are easy to install and
after a year no rain or pest problems. summer temp in attic is within 8-10 deg of outside temp.
just be sure to do a complete attic job - all softie vents need to be clear or even better install baffles at $3 each. I installed 2 pop vents louvers put in 6 softie baffles and added more blow in insulation.
the entire attic job was $375 and cant say enough about how much better my two story house holds temp. attic always has good air flow now.

Passive not active
Very misleading that a company named Active Ventilation predominently makes passive ventilation products relying soley on convection.
Not recommended if ductwork or HVAC equipment is installed in the attic, USE A POWERED FAN IN THAT CASE

Looks like it will better vent my attic than those little flat air hawks...
A little breeze and more heat will exhaust from these vents than air hawks or mushrooms...

As expected
Installed 3 near the soffit to serve as intakes for an attic power vent. Well constructed, power coated finish.
