A great door. It looks good and I can tell it is cutting down on heat/cold transmission. This is my second Anderson storm door and I appreciate the quality of the product. I did have it professionally installed as I was slightly concerned about the weight of the double thick glass overwhelming my efforts. The installer had it up and looking great in about 30 minutes. Two things: some people have an issue with the lack of a true locking mechanism (extending into the door jam.) I did not get this door for security, so it does not bother me. Locked or unlocked, the door stays closed and does not fly open even in high winds. The second thing is that I live outside of a major metropolitan area ( 1.5 hours from Houston) and it took forever to schedule an installer (about 5 weeks.) They only come out here once a week and you have to get in line. Other than that, a great purchase and a great experience overall.

Great Insulated Door With A Few Cavaets
Hello, I just finished installing the Anderson Series 4000 Storm Door. It is the right hand version with the double pane insulated glass. The instructions are well written and if your door jamb opening is the correct size the installation is easy & straight forward. That being said, I do have some building construction experience and am a bit of a perfectionist. When first fitting the storm door into my door frame I did not like how loosely the storm door fit into the frame opening so I added a ¼” X 1” spacer on both sides of the jamb to give the frame of the storm door a better fit in the opening. The door is very sturdy with a good amount of weather stripping and will be very solidly attached to your door jamb if you follow the installation directions. It is important that you keep the factory installed spacers in place during the installation and only remove them when told to do so in the directions as they help to keep the door plumb and everything properly spaced. This is especially true for the spacer located at the bottom of the storm door on the handle side. This will help to minimize the slight sagging of the door on the handle side when you install the very heavy (aprox. 85 pound) insulated glass panel. The few issues I had with the door are as follows. Be very careful if you have small children or pets around when installing this door as there were numerous, small bits of razor sharp aluminum shavings that fell out of the box and out of the door itself during installation. These were from the machine cut openings in the door for the handle & lock assembly. They could easily be ingested by a child or pet and cause serious injury or be stepped on and cause a cut or become lodged in a child or pet’s foot. The next issue was that after installing the heavy insulated glass panel, the top edge of the door was no longer even with the top drip cap of the storm door frame. (See photo attachment). There is the normal 2/16” gap on the hinge size at the top of the door, but on the handle side the gap at the top is 5/16” making a 3/16 of an inch difference. Many people may not even notice, but it is painfully obvious to me and I can see not solution for it due to the extreme weight of the glass. I did call customer service and on my second call was able to get a seemingly knowledgeable person on the phone. He said that this uneven gap is considered normal for this particular door and there is no correction for it. My l final issue with the door is that it does not close tightly enough. Everything works as it should and the pistons pull the door closed and it latches nicely, but even when fully closed & latched there is a very slight gap between the weather stripping on the door and the door’s aluminum jamb. If you pull the handle of the door toward you from the inside about 1/8” this gap disappears and the seal is perfect. I see this as a slight design flaw and what is needed is an addition 1/8” of material on the inside of the frame area of the door where the latching mechanism engages to hold the door closed. To test my theory I temporarily added a 4” long, x 5/16” wide x 1/8” thick of material to this area where the door latch & dead bolt engage the door frame and it worked perfectly! (See attached photo). The door now closes tightly against the weather stripping with no gaps whatsoever. I will be removing this test material and gluing in a piece of 4” long x 5/16” wide x 1/8” thick aluminum strip as my finished remedy. All in all I am very happy with this door and it does a great job of keeping out the cold air. Also, just so you know if you are in need of a storm door with insulated glass this was the ONLY one that I could find during my online searching that comes with insulated glass so you really don’t have a lot of options. In conclusion, I wanted to have a very sturdy & insulated storm door on the front of my house so that my dog could lay by the door and look out at the neighborhood without sacrificing too much heat loss and at the same time have it be secure enough to deter most would-be burglars. This door fits the bill perfectly! It would take some doing to break open the door when it is locked and if someone was going to do that they would just pry open any inside door as well. Remember locks only keep out relatively honest people! Understanding the few caveats I mentioned, I would definitely recommend this door to anyone in the market for a good insulated storm door. tkeeg

A great door! I had my concerns before installation was completed but turned out great. A quality door and so happy I opted for the double pane argon filled option. The screws were a pain to put in though with the drill size given. Overall though, love the Andersen product!

Just got this door and installed. This is definitely a defect product. You can see clearly from the pictures. My hinge rail is strictly vertical but the top door frame is about 1/2 inch to the left (inside view) than the bottom. So there is a gap between the top of the door and rain cap.

Well built Storm Door. Our door is a white 4000 Series with low e, Dual Pane Insulating with Argon Blend glass and an oil Rubbed Bronze handle. The fit and finish is extraordinary and the instructions are easy to follow. We purchased a left hand so there was no reversal necessary. However the instructions clearly show how to make the switch to RH. A couple of notes about assembly. Plan at least and hour and a half to install. Make sure your opening is ready for the new door. The door can be heavy (ours was very heavy due to the insulating glass panel) so have capable help nearby. The included two closers is a bonus and handles our heavy door with ease. Anderson pre drills the holes on the door for the closer bracket- greatly appreciated. The deadbolt hardware takes patience to install, very fussy and marginal quality (sorry Anderson) Plan for additional time to align the deadbolt so that the rotating thumb latch will operate freely. The opening they cut for our door left very little margin for the lock to operate correctly. If you over tighten the lock assembly it will bind the deadbolt and lever mechanism. This will take some finesse to get it just right. For $400+ I'd like to think the lock set would be better in quality and the opening and frame ready to accept the lock set. Other than the deadbolt, the door is remarkable in quality. Highly recommended.

You don't always get what you pay for
I guess you don't always get what you pay for... I purchased a 4000 series door because I liked the quick change feature and felt the top of the line model would be worth the extra cost.  I previously installed a 3000 series at a prior home and didn't love the screen retention strips.Well where to start... I'm not sure it's possible to install this door in 45 minutes on a first attempt.  After doing it once I think it's possible on a second attempt.  Anderson incorporated several clips to aide in the installation process which makes installation pretty easy.  However I ran into a huge issue after mounting the door.  The instructions have you adjust the door sweet to eliminate the bottom gap but its only adjusts a 1/16".  This makes no sense to me because the door rests on a temporary clip during mounting that is close to an 1/8" thick.I called Anderson to explain the situation and this is when I really got frustrated.  First they couldn't recognize my door serial number, claiming it was invalid.  Nope that's the number on my door jamb.  They came up with a variety of suggestions from blow drying the bottom seal to uninstalling and reinstalling the door.  None of this made sense as it wouldn't fix my problem.  I'm a mechanical engineer and I don't believe in magic.  I explained the only uninstalling I would be doing is when I return this door to Home Depot.  After a solid 25 minutes on the phone I got the technician to acknowledge Anderson changed the design on the door sweep in November 2018 but didn't know my manufacturing date since they couldn't recognize my serial number.  I got the new part coming but it's going to take a 21 days as they have none in inventory.  All this and the technician acted as if he was doing me a favor.  Right now I'm still debating if I just return it.

The instructions were easy to follow and the installation was very smooth. Adjusting was easy and it works great. My only comment is the screen: the horizontal bar in the middle of the screen should be heavier and less likely to bend, as some of my guests have used this to push the door open, and it's not designed to do that. Otherwise, we love it!

I purchased the Anderson 4000 series with the Low E glass and the interchangeable glass/screen; I had a handyman install it. First off, don't waste your money getting the interchangeable glass/screen. If you are a single old woman, like I am, it will be impossible for you to change out the glass for the screen because it is too heavy. So, that was a waste; then the glass insert does not sit flush with the top of the door and for someone that is OCD, that is irritating. The installer said the door's frame is crooked. Then after all is said and done, I am cleaning the glass and what do I find smack dab in the middle of the clear glass? Yep, a nice 2" scratch. So, I get on the phone and call the toll free number that was on the box. Yes, they are sending me another glass but because it is so heavy, it isn't going to be an easy switch for me so I will have to bug a family member to assist me. And also, when I saw the pix of the door online, the screen DID NOT HAVE A METAL STRIP ACROSS THE MIDDLE. It showed a full screen with no metal strip across it; that was one of the reasons I purchased this particular door. So, that was disappointing also; had I seen that, I would not have paid extra for the exchangeable glass/screen. What a waste. I am NOT impressed with Anderson at all at this point.

We are sorry about the issue with the glass but we are glad you were promptly sent a replacement. We alsoa apologize if the design of the screen did not work for you. You can also select the Andersen 3000 Self-Storing Storm Door that is a full light model with a pull-down screen and will not require you to lift just to interchange the glass and screen. Below are parts of a letter I sent to Homedepot about problems I am having with my 3 custom 4000 series Andersen Storm doors that I ordered February 01 2019, through the ProDesk in the Middletown Home Depot. I received the doors about a month later. We installed these storms on our unpainted custom mahogany door jambs and trim that have not been mounted on the building yet. The storms were positioned and drilled out and mounted on the jambs for a perfect fit. All protective plastic wrappings were left on the storms. We removed the storm doors and painted the custom mahogany door jambs and trim with an expensive 5 part process Sirca paint process. We intentionally wanted the storm door holes to be fully coated for long lasting permanent seal of the wood jambs and trim. Once the jambs were finished being painted this last week we removed the storm door protective coverings and found metal filings from the door construction sandwiched between the tape and the storm door. As a result ,of course there is scratching in all the places where the filings were sandwiched. Additionally we found small bits of material painted over into the original coating in multiple locations on all of these Andersen storm doors. Even some of the miters are ragged and not tight. Once we realized that there were all these issues with the doors I contacted Andersen at the 800 number on the box . I sent them pictures via email of the problems. Apparently Andersen customer support is in the Philippines and none of the customer representatives and supervisors understood the issues and problems. Their solution is to have me return these doors to Home Depot and reinstall new replacement doors and that Andersen was not responsible for the issue of having to re-drill ,bung, sand and repaint these custom mahogany door jambs and trim because we are going to have to put in these new replacement custom storm doors. These replacement doors will take another month to build and that is the best time that Andersen can do. This is not a fair and adequate solution for us. With no resolution from the Philippines , I was connected to another number for Andersen 1-877-229-2677 ext 5876 and spoke with Sandra. Her answer to the problem was to bring the doors back to Home Depot. These Storm doors were made with defects in the paint coating and they were not inspected by Andersen after being built and they were negligently packed and sealed by Andersen as well which resulted in more scratches on the doors. The doors are "seconds" quality and I feel that I should be charged accordingly. Switching these doors out and bunging the holes and re-coating the door jambs and trim with the Sirca 5 step process is going to cost me more then the storm doors will cost. I did nothing wrong here and have spent a lot of money on Andersen products at Home Depot on this $100,000.00 addition to my home. Andersen needs to make this right.

This 45 minute install design makes it 100 times better than the old designs that came in separate pieces and had to be trimmed at bottom with a hack saw. Takes two people to set it in place in order to prevent singing door, but once you get the first two holes drilled it's a one person job. The measurement for the top closer is for placement of top edge of door jam clip. It has 3 locks that secure door closed if you follow locking procedure. It's a great design.

This product comes with an estimated 45 minute installation timeframe; however, it took twice the time due to harder to undetstand directions than anticipated. A minor piece was missing from the installation kit and the upper rain flange cover piece does fit. With that said the product works for the intended purpose and looks great.

Amazing. Stop looking and buy this door. The extra money is worth it over the 3000 series and The other big names sold by the other big box store.I actually installed the premium signature door from the L brand and the screen would not stay in. I lived with it for 3 days before I took it out and bought this. The only thing I was concerned about with this door is one of our kids accidentally ejecting the glass with the quick change. I was able to remove the quick change button from the handle set so that we can now use it like a key only when we are switching the glass and the screen. The screen is absolutely amazing. They have a picture of a woman standing on it on the brochure and I believe it. I love the fact that it actually locks into place. The glass and glass frame are also extra heavy duty. Finally, this is by far the easiest install I've ever seen on a storm door. Still took me a little over an hour but I've installed 7-8 storm doors and this was easily half the time of the next closest one. So easy. We've only had the door for a few days but you can tell it is premium quality.

This door is very strong and safe; an excellent storm door for our hurricane prone area. Having gone through 2 hurricanes and numerous storms in the past 10 years I have changed all 5 of our exterior storm doors to this type of door. What makes this door so special is the laminated glass and the 3 point locking system. This is a very heavy glass door because of the laminated glass and beefed up frame. The glass in this door is not removable as it is in some of the other anderson products. It took my wife and I about an hour and a half to install this door because we had to remove the old door first. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty and dual closers are an added plus. The door handle must be purchased separately. I have added some photos.

What exactly is the "integrated latch receiver" that's supposed to replace the strike plate in this door? We had this door installed in August and there's nothing to hold the door closed except the lip of the frame, and the door does not stay latched when closed. In other words, it can easily be pushed or pulled open without using the handle at all. The only way to hold it closed is to lock it, and even then the bolt is only being held by the lip of the frame. The police inspected our house last weekend after someone apparently tried to enter through our deck slider door, and they said this setup is not secure without a strike plate. Here's a picture of the door frame where the latch and lock bolt go into, where a strike plate would normally be. You can see there's nothing there to hold the latch or bolt except the lip of the frame.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the Andersen 4000 Series Fullview Dual Pane Insulating Glass Storm Door. We are sorry to hear about what happened. Integrated latch receiver feature means the latch receiver is built into a channel of the handleside z-bar (latch rail). This feature eliminates the need of a striker plate. If you notice two (2) holes on the latch rail, they were from the packaging material and should get covered with color-matched plugs. The quality of the door is great. This model went into to place really well and can be installed by one installer. The only disappointment is this door doesn't have a strike plate for the door handle latch to catch on. This door catches on the frame of the door and it doesn't close tight, it leaves about a 3/16 gap when closed all the way. My neighbor has an o,dear version of this door and his has the strike plate and closes tight. It's a heavy door with dual panes so be prepared to tackle a heavy door.

Thank you for review about the Andersen 4000 Fullview Storm Door. This door features an integrated latch receiver in the latch rail, eliminating the need for a traditional, separate strike plate. It is normal for Easy Install Storm Doors to rattle a little but if you feel that the gap is affecting the door's performance, please contact the Andersen Storm Door Solution Center at 855-337-8822 from 7:00AM to 6:00PM CST on weekdays and 8:00AM to 5:00PM CST during Saturdays and Sundays so we can assist you better. Kindly have the serial number of your door ready when you call. It is located anywhere on the hinge part, in a white or silver sticker. - Charmaine Andersen

4000 Series went in easily and looks nice, but it appears the quick change broke or was broken on first attempt. Andersen support suggested to take off the door handle assembly and when I did it seems pretty certain that the plastic inside had broken and now we cannot get the glass out. Now the whole door assembly has to come out. I don't understand why plastic is used for a heavy glass insert. If I feel like I have to remove the whole thing just for that I will go with a competing product or drop down to the 3000 series. Andersen support believes that I can't return it. I wish I never bought it.

After reading many reviews, I decided on the 4000 series door and I am glad I did. I love how easy it is to change the glass and screen. The door was so easy to install, I am glad I bought the easy install door. I was lucky, my door opening was perfect for this door, so all I had to do is unbox it, set it in place, then screw it on and add the screw covers. I bought the handle that went with this door and it is beautiful. I couldn't have ask for a better door, strong and should last many years. I would highly recommend this door to everyone.

Very good quality door that was pretty quick to install. Only problem was that the pneumatic door closer doesn't fit in our space between the doors (would have had to build out door an inch) but will get a smaller one since door is otherwise perfect.

I was able to install this door correctly... only because I've installed lots of doors previously. Anyone buying a storm door that is advertised as a "45-minute Install" ---and then gives a list of required tools which does not include a level, ought to be a little suspicious. Yes, I guess you CAN install the door without a level, but you would have to be a very lucky guy if it happened to work correctly afterwards. Hint: make certain that whatever you screw the door to is level and plumb. I used some thin wood shims to correct for the slightly out of plumb situation left for me by whoever built this house. The storm door now easily latches no matter how slowly I have the closers set to operate.

                            Great door!
I have fifteen of these doors in two separate three season porches. The quick change mechanisms allow me to change from screen to glass, all fifteen, in right about forty-five minutes. My wife was standing there with me, at Home Depot, when I ordered them and, of course, her mouth dropped open and she said, "How many!?" But, once in, she loved them, too. If you care to look at the picture included, you will see that you can or, could, also order the hardware to join two doors together, to open, allowing bigger items to be brought in. A special bar is attached to either door, left or right, which locks into place when not using it and allows the opposing door to lock to it. Overall, this, I think, is a great product!

Not as secure as you think!
I brought this door about 2 years ago. It was installed by Home Depot. Lately, I have had trouble with it locking. One day last week, I was locked inside the house with my children. After picking the lock with a knife I was able to open the door to find two loose screws. When I went to tighten them, I couldn't because they were stripped. I audited the remainder of screws and found 3 more stripped screws. I set them aside to replace with larger screws. When I left to go get replacement screws, I tried to lock the door with my key but was unable to and was only able to lock it from the inside. Now, just yesterday my one year old kicked the door and the glass cracked. I originally brought this door because of the look and the security I was promised. The salesman explained that it was practically "shatter-proof". If a one year old can crack the glass with one kick, I can only imagine what an adult who is trying to get in the house could do. I would not recommend this door for any type of security AT ALL. The marketing with the bowling ball being dropped on the door is a joke!! Could this be faulty installation or poor quality?

Thank you for posting your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced with your door. We would like to note that the entry door, not the storm door, is considered the main line of defense in protecting your home. It is important to keep in mind that your storm door is intended to reduce the amount of exposure your entry door has to the outside elements and may not secure your home from any outside force. (Almost) Five Stars -- Easy install, looks great, feels sturdy
I got tired of trying to prop up the cheap, aluminum-over-particle board storm door that was on the front of our house, which moisture had caused to swell and split. Our in-laws bought the Andersen 4000 door for their home and liked it, so we went with the same. It's not perfect -- I'd give it 4.5 stars, if I could -- but it's very good, and we are very pleased. The GOOD: 1. Ease of installation ... and clear, well-written instructions. If you've measured correctly and can use a drill and screwdriver, you can install this door. 2. Good packaging ... with no dents or dings. 3. Good quality mounting hardware included (even a nice 1/8 in. drill bit that doesn't walk) ... and nothing missing. 4. Very nice looks ... simple, sturdy, blends in nicely with most home exteriors. 5. Solid construction ... with a few minor exceptions (see below), this looks and feels like a very well-made door that should last for many years. 6. Dual closers ... this was one of the things that made us choose this over the 3000 series. With the glass installed, it's a heavy door, and having closers at the top and bottom make it feel much more secure. The NOT-SO-GOOD: 1. The glass/screen retention clips. While the release system is simple and ingenious (push the slider button, turn the door handle clockwise), the action feels sloppy and imprecise, and the clips are plastic and feel cheap. Perhaps they're sturdy enough, but I don't want to find out. Getting the glass panel in place was the most frustrating part of the installation, and took several false starts. 2. Heat buildup behind the glass ... our house faces east and gets morning sun, and even on cool mornings our front door gets HOT behind the glass. In the summer sun, this may become a real issue. We'll see. 3. Flimsy screen. Again, maybe it will prove to be sturdier than it looks and feels, but compared to the heavy wire screens I remember from when I was a kid, this feels like cheesecloth. We don't have pets, but I fully expect our toddlers to poke a hole in it eventually. The AMBIVALENT: 1. The handle and locking system ... some reviews were really negative, but I think it's OK -- not top-of-the-line quality, but to me, it doesn't feel flimsy, and the way it mounts to the door seems reassuringly solid. And installing it is as close to a no-brainer as I can imagine. 2. Adaptability. There really aren't many adjustments that you can make to this door when mounting it. In the interest of keeping the install simple, there really aren't many moving parts, so if it fits, you're in luck; if not, you'll just have to work on your brick molding, because there's very little you can do beyond adjusting the sweep up and down a bit and choosing between a narrow or wider drip cap. In our case, our brick molding was about 1/4 inch out of square, and with a bit of careful trim work, I made the door fit, but I would have preferred to have a bit more flexibility to adjust the frame to our door opening, even if it meant a little more complicated and time-consuming install. TLDR / Bottom Line: It's a very nice-looking door that only took an hour or so to install, and it seems sturdy enough to last for some time. Good value for the price. Read the specs and measure CAREFULLY, and prep your brick molding beforehand, because there isn't much flexibility in mounting. It either fits or it doesn't.

Thank you for choosing our 4000 Series Full View Storm Door. We truly appreciate your time passing on this feedback and giving us a high rating. It is great to know that installation went well for you, and yes, having the right mounting requirement would maximize the pre-hung feature of this storm door.

We are sorry that you experience heat build up. You are correct, direct sunlight may cause the front door or the storm door itself to get hot and we recommend applying grey tint on the glass to reduce heat build-up.

In regards with the retention clips, the glass panel of a new door has a bulb seal that may take time to be fully compressed, but once it is fully compressed this should make the switching of the window and screen with ease.

The screen of the door should tight on the frame, and if this is not the case for your screen, we recommend you to contact the Andersen Storm Doors Solution Center at 855-337-8822 from 7:00AM to 6:00PM CST on weekdays and 8:00AM to 5:00PM CST during weekends.
