This material and fasteners worked quite well for me. I was required to add something like this to my house to obtain county approval during my inspection. Not only did it meet their requirements, it was pretty easy to install. The mounting bolts actually look kinda cool around the windows and doors when the fabric is not hung on them. I was not happy to know I had to leave permanent hardware around them but after I was done, they looked like accent pieces. An installation tip I have is about drilling holes in the material for the bolts to go through. Drilling the stuff is hard to do because it can easily get twisted up in a drill bit. After a few frustrating episodes of that, I used my soldering iron to burn holes in it. Not only was that way faster, it keeps the holes from fraying. After mounting the top two outside corners, I could also see through the material to burn holes in all the remaining bolt holes.

Easrier to Install than Expected
We purchased this fabric for our oversized sliding glass doors. If you do the preliminary work of reading the installation instructions and measuring (2 or 3 times) and adding the overlap required you should have no issues. I also drew a diagram to ensure we knew exactly what we needed to do for clip spacing when we got out the drill and screw driver. The only negative comment I have is, that one side of the fabric has an unfinished edge. I suppose if it was an issue, instructions would have been provided on how to finish the edge. And I must admit it will take a little while to get used to the bolts framing the sliders when the fabric is not in use. Other than that I am really pleased with this.

Hurricane Fabric
Great product- installation can be difficult though. I had to hire total hurricane shutters to finish my install and actually they enclosed my entire patio with the hurricane screen!

Peace of Mind
My husband insralled fabrc over our 3 panel glass sliders. We installed it two weeks ago and Deland Florida was hit with a t-storm tornado! We had 115 mph winds and debris and the fabric did the job. In prior hurricanes, we covered wirh plastic panels and foam board, but the window glass flexed. This panel keeps the direct winds at bay

I had the most exposed windows and doors covered in aluminum panels, very secure but it's a job you want some help with. After a couple of years of watching the new products, I went with the AstroGuard Fabric system for the other three sides of my house. I'm really glad I did. Cutting the panels to size and installing the clips isn't hard, just takes some time. I better the bit you use the easier to drill, but I have a rotary hammer drill and it didn't take much time at all. When I had installed the fabric over the large front door and sidelights, as well as a large double window near it, it only took about 20 minutes take it all down and return the sidewalk bolts into the anchors using a battery driven drill with a #3 phillips. Another interesting thing is the way the clips can be used either on a flat surface or a 90 degree wall (see pic on left side of both). Both the front door set and large window had one side of the fabric on a perpendicular wall - so much better than the aluminum panel mounts. I know that when I get up in years, I'll still be able to put up all the AstroGuard Fabric by my self in no time all around the house, but I'll need help with the aluminum panels.

I purchased this hurricane fabric for the following reasons: 1) installing it seem a good DIY project; 2) it seem to cost less per window and; 3) it would be easier to store. The material was back ordered and it took over 6 weeks to receive. There was a note inside the shipping box that suggested heat sealing the cut edges to keep they from fraying. Instead of purchasing the suggested $200 cutter/heat sealer, I used a box cutter to cut the fabric and a small propane torch to very carefully sear the cut edges. It worked well. I also found that brackets needed to be attached every 12" on the two longest sides. This averaged 12 t0 14 brackets per window with each bracket requiring 8 short screws to grip the fabric. That was a lot more work than I expected.

Product was easy to cut to the needed dimensions, and the directions for placing the tabs on the material were quite adequate. This was the least expensive solution to providing protection for an older, non-wind rated door. While the HD site did not say so, personal research did find that this product is Miami-Dade approved for wind insurance purposes. It would have been smarter for HD and the maker to note this information on the web site.

There were no labels for each panel stating the facts 9of what these panels stand for as proof to my insurance company, that these panels qualify for a rate deduction of my premium. In your advertising it states, that each panel does come with a label

The placement of product was fairly simple. Larger apertures are more easily completed with two people. We'll see how well it works when the next hurricane hits!

Great product, easy to cut with a good medium duty scissors. Was a good DIY project attaching the clips. May need a little help when installing on a slider, but was able to do most of the work myself. Lightweight, even with the clips installed. Folds up for storage. If installing anchors on concrete/block use a hammer drill to drill the holes. Use a driver drill for the anchor installation. May need an adhesive on some anchors if you try overdoing the installation. Get a high grade hex driver bit rather than the one supplied through Astroguard.
