Hello Christina, We are so sorry to hear of the trouble you have been having. It is not normal for our sinks to stain like that. Its rare, but typically hard buildup of what looks like stains or water buildup sit above the surface of the sink and the glaze and can easily be removed using something like Bar Keeper's Friend (easily found in stores) and that will get the sink looking like new once again. The only thing that would prevent this would be damage to the glaze itself which is very unlikely and typically only occurs if harsh cleaning chemicals have been used that eat through the glaze (this is universally true of all glazed products). Hello, we are so delighted you love your new sink. As you noted, the grid should help prevent scuff marks, but we did want to let you know those marks should just be surface marks. It is actually really difficult to penetrate the surface of these sinks, and those marks should buff out with a magic eraser and some Bar Keeper's Friend... an easy fix if you notice any more "scratches".
