Live in the PNW and was excited I picked this up on clearance last year. Just tried it out today and less than 20 mins in the light rain and was not waterproof. I have tons of Carhartt products and this one does not live up to their name

Stock photos are not accurate, the "tarmac" brown color is more of a olive green or loden green. The material is shiny looking

Very disappointed in this "rain" jacket. I bought it for work around the farm during storms...I am as wet after wearing this jacket as I would be if I didn't wear one at all.....and if I wear it in anticipation of a storm, I'm soaking wet from sweating because of it's inability to breath. Proper application for use... STEP ONE: TAKE RAIN COAT OUR OF PACKAGE STEP TWO: PLACE DIRECTLY IN TO TRASH

Bought this jacket to walk in the rain at work. First day I took it out on a light rainy day and it was damp inside within 20 minutes of being out. Extremely disappointed as this jacket is not cheap and is advertised as a rain jacket. It's even funny that it's called a "Storm Defender" and can't even keep my dry in 20minutes of light rain. Will return ASAP.

I had high hopes with this jacket. I love Carhartt clothing and am very brand loyal, so when I needed a rain coat, I decided to purchase this one. I wore the jacket maybe 2 times in the rain before I noticed water was seeping into the jacket. On a 10 minute walk in average rainfall, The neck / shoulder area was beginning to soak with water. I don't know if this is a one-off thing, as it seems others have not had this experience, but I was honestly disappointed. I give it 3 stars because I enjoy the styling of the jacket - but in terms of functionality (keeping me dry), it did not fair so well.

I really liked it and it worked great UNTIL it started to de-laminate along the collar and the pockets. Not good.

I live in central Texas and we are in a serious drought. I have owned this jacket for 1 year and worn it 3 or 4 times and it has begun delaminating in the hood. Terrible quality. Carhartt has never failed me until now.

just got mines in, very nice jacket but what caught e my attention was the orange pull strings for the pocket, MINES WAS ALL BLACK ? i say that so say it the jacket they sent me was all black strings im very picky i know but thats what caught me eye for the jacket the orange stood out well to me.

I live in Canadian praries where Rain is scarce, but as they say, when it rains it pours. This jacket seems up to the task, keeps me dry and comfortable, no sweating the heat escapes yet water drips right off. The hood visor is great and the inside zipper pocket is perfect for a phone. My only problem is i wish it was abit thicker, maybe 5oz. But that’s just me being nitpicky, it looks great and slick in the city yet is tough enough to withstand the woods. 10/10

I bought this rain jacket a few weeks ago and have only used it around town for one light rain. After reading some reviews here that say it doesn't provide full waterproof protection, i decided to put it to the test today to see if i should consider returning it. i got naked, put the jacket on and stepped into the shower at home. i spent a few minutes standing in place while slowly turning in circles. i turned the shower off and towel dried the outside of the jacket before taking it off. after taking it off, it did not appear to be wet inside the jacket. there was no wetness on my skin, but i felt a bit "clammy"...but i attribute that to the humidity in the shower and the vinyl jacket being in contact with my bare skin. i don't know if this is good for riding my motorcycle in the rain for a long time, but it seems to be ok for the basics of what i need. the finish of the outside material has a slight shiny look, which i don't care much for, but so far i am glad i bought this. i haven't used it enough to determine durability.

Light and comfortable to wear when the sun shines, once it starts raining prepare to be wet. Seems like a high quality jacket but wetness soaks thru and leaves me soak. Wanted to like this as I need a good rain jacket, unfortunately this one was not up to the task.

Way better quality than Columbia!!! This rain jacket is meant to be in the rain. It doesn't absorb the water like most rain jackets after being in the rain for thirty minutes. Solid piece of equipment for my daily job. The only regret is I didn't buy this jacket sooner!

Does not hold up to the rain, Bought for my Son, we was so wet he had to go home on his lunch break and change his clothes, So disappointed in Carhartt

Just bought this jacket, the chest in back have a liner inside that is water proof, but the arms and sleeves do not. Payed almost 100 for this after taxes. If I would have known the whole thing was not water proof I would have never bought it.

Fits well and is great quality. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again.

My son loves it. He will use it for fishing and riding his ATV. It does run a bit big though.

Very disappointed! Bought the set and the item doesn't match up with the description and purpose. During light rain I get soaked and I'm not outside all day. I drive trucks, so I'm in and out the vehicle but my clothes underneath the rain jacket tell a different story.

Excellent jacket. Great quality. But my goodness this thing is HUGE. I'm an XXL in t Shirts, sometimes XL with jackets but I'm going to have to return for a large.

Bought for my son as his previous one wore out. He's just starting to use it recently. No complaints from him.

I only get about one good season out of these rain jackets. I won't be purchasing these anymore. The membrane starts to peel on the inside after a few hard days out in the rain. They also run big compared to other manufacturers.

Cheap and poorly made. Wish you guys still made the heavy weight one that was like a thick pvc/rubber. This was the closest I could find to that jacket, extremely disappointed

Calling this jacket waterproof rainwear is generous at best. I work outside all day, every day. Several hours in light to moderate rain and it's soaked and so am I. I picked up the matching pants to go with the jacket and am just as unimpressed. Disappointing to say the least. I've always loved Carhartt products but these don't live up to reputation.

Perhaps a little larger than I expected, that will make it easier to fit over a bulky sweater. Got a chance to wear it in a decent rainstorm and it kept me dry. It's the quality of clothing that I have come to expect from Carhart, so I am pleased.

I ordered this jacket so I could still take my walks during the rainy season in Japan. I wore the jacket for the first time this morning and it was definitely not designed to withstand the rain. Getting back soaked after my walk wasn't so bad considering I was out for some exercise. However, if I had been wearing this on my way to work, I would have been pretty upset. The jacket looks decent and fits well, but should not be mistaken for a rain coat.

This was my 2nd one of these jackets and I'm happy that it still has the same fit and quality. My first jacket stood up to very hard usage for nearly a year before it started to show any signs of wear. I work outside in the rain a lot and I have to be out in heavy rain for an extended period before I start to feel any dampness under this jacket.

Love the jacket but the elastic for the adjustable fell off before I even had a chance to use it, and it was my 3rd time wearing it! Hopefully carhartt can hook me up with a fix and it was just a factory error because I know there stuff is better than this especially since the jacket I've had for 10+ years doesn't have one loose stitch

You should leave a review, my wife is into waterspouts and squirts like a fire hydrant during a heatwave in the Bronx and I have to say this jacket kept me as dry as the desert

Its just what I was looking for in a summer weight, casual rain jacket with pockets, and the extra little hood extention was a pleasant bonus.
