This product is similar to older wire shelving with one big exception. This version includes a horizontal bar that the vertical members can lock onto at the top. Whether you are able to mount that bar directly into studs or not, it really helps keep the system sturdy. In my case, I had an old wall with irregularly spaced studs that did not lend itself to screwing into studs. I decided to not create new screw holes in the horizontal bar and just used the many available holes with drywall fasteners. The pre-drilled holes are set to accommodate 16" and 24" stud centers. On a 40": bar there were five available. One was set into a stud and the others were attached through the drywall. Using good quality drywall fasteners gave me a couple hundred pounds of safe hanging strength. The vertical bars (just 12" for this application) were placed with drywall fasteners as well and the whole system was up in less than half an hour. A single shelf was placed near the bottom of the verticals to hold a wire, compartmented storage rack that my wife purchased to hold various kitchen utensils and appliances. And, yes, those are small paint cups in the picture. My wife found that they work for 'other' uses. So I have to hide the ones I want to keep for paint! The horizontal bar gives you much more flexibility in where you can place your uprights, even when strength is the prime consideration.

Using the top hanging bracket on the shelf track system makes it much easier to install the tracks themselves. Once the top bracket is installed, it hold the vertical tracks in position so you can center them over the studs and drill them into place easily.

Strong and fairly easy to install. This track holds the vertical shelf tracks for the ClosetMaid system. I have used it in two closets and it helps ensure the shelves and all do not come falling down on you. The screw holes are every eight inches and you can drill new ones if needed. It is important to get this track bar in the studs, or at least a few studs for maximum hold and sturdiness. I cut this to size with a hack saw and drilled a few extra 7/32" holes with cobalt bits. It is fairly light so holding it during installation is not too bad.

The Closetmaid 24 inch track I put it on a bathroom wall with 2, 12 inch ClosetMaid shelves. I screwed all in to the wooden studs that I installed behind the wallboard. There is no way this is going to pull out of the wall. That is a ClosetMaid basket hanging off the lower shelf, that can be purchased at HD in the same aisle as the ClosetMaid shelves.

Simple to Install. I had to buy this extra 2 foot section since the 5 foot piece wasn't long enough for the 8 foot shelves. I always secure vertical supports by using 3 inch long drywall screws into wall studs. This provides strong attachment to support weight on cantilever shelves.

Good, strong and durable hardware and was able to assist us with what we wanted to accomplish.

I have done 15 walk in closets using these hang tracks And they have come out Beautifully. These closets are 8'x4' to 14'x14', yes from small to very large. I turned a bedroom into a craftroom using ClosetMaid And a bedroom size 9.7'x10 7' into a walk in closet, costing me $1198.56 total for that one closet. I am now redesigning a 10'x11' master bedrooms' walk in closet And the bedrooms' sitting room into a shoe closet. I love ClosetMaid products.

This product was installed in my garage to a block wall. It did take a bit of work to set the screws into the wall but once it was up it was very easy to attach the vertical shelf supports. See the attached picture for the completed project.

Easy DIY install fit perfectly on top of closet allow easy hanging of shelves.

Used grinder to cut hang track to 72” and put wall anchor (EZ Anchor 75 lb) in every hole (probably overkill!)-studs did not line up. I like the cleaner, less fastener, adjustable aspect and results of the project. Hint-try WD40 for sticker removal issues.

I was glad to find this in order to erect shelving where the studs were poorly placed for my needs. It was easy to trim to size with a hacksaw, and installed easily. I would love to have access to the covers Elfa brand has for its version of these, but I don't, so I used card stock, which will do for now.

Before I purchased ShelfTrack and other ClosetMaid products that utilize it, I tried most everything and was disappointed with most everything else. I have to admit that I hesitated purchasing the ShelfTrack as I had planned on just buying the brackets, supports and shelves as I was going to place the supports over the existing studs and therefore, why buy the hang track? Well, using my stud locator (worth buying), I found that none of my closets had evenly spaced studs behind the sheetrock (makes since due to the fact that the framers put up the walls with evenly spaced studs (16" centers) but then the partition walls are not necessarily lined up on 16" centers. So the Hang Track made it simple to evenly space the supports (enough were over the studs to add fasteners for additional support). THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW: 1 these are a lot easier to put up with a helper. 2. Measure twice, cut once (you may need to cut on both ends as you should try to center a pre-drilled hole somewhere in the middle of the wall). 3. A hacksaw or sawzall works best for cutting. 4. Use high quality, heavy duty fasteners (look, you will be putting hundreds of pounds on these and get fasteners that are rated accordingly). 5. When fastening, use a torpedo or other bubble level and start in the middle on a stud as it is easier. Once you have the Hang Track up, everything else is a breeze and check out the photos of the closets I am doing and finished. Also, register with Home Depot and check their website for availability and possibly special buys or discounts for buying in bulk.

My wife loves these....she has built 2 shoe closets, a 10x9 walk-in closet, and maximized open space with them.

I bought this shelf track three days ago but I have been using this system for years. Very simple to install, I installed it in less than 10 minutes and it adds instant use and organization to the dead space in your closets.

I put a ClosetMaid system in my laundry room / pantry and love it! I can store everything I need and it is so easy to find things. The install was a breeze! I will be using the same system in my master closet next!

This was easy to install and will hold a lot of weight in our pantry. We couldn't get the piece cut in store, so we filed it down ourselves to 22 inches so it would fit in our closet.

This product assumes you have a perfectly built wall. I installed track on my wall and had system collapse. The verticals (standards) did not grip on to shelf track, and slipped right off while loading shelves. I later realized it was due to my imperfect, and subtly concave wall (due to dismal construction). This caused the hang track to curve with wall, and the bottom rail did not provide sufficient support for verticals. See image provided. I suggest another system that actually hooks to hang track, such as elfa.

Excellent and Strong! My wife wanted to renovate our Laundry Room. I assessed and looked at several of these from different producers, and the ClosetMaid was heavier and more solid than its competitors. This 80 inch Track fit our room's width perfectly without cutting. We purchased 16 inch and 12 inch shelves. Found it easy to install and add the components. Wife is happy, and I like it very much (See attached image). We then repeated the shelving on the wall opposite the washer and dryer, so she now had everything she wanted. I did cut the track on the opposite side wall with a hacksaw. Also used an 18" bolt cutter to cut the shelf width. It worked fine, but it the larger shelf bars are hard and difficult to cut. Might be better to use a hacksaw.

Love the new shelves. Easy to install and strong! doesn't look cheap. My wife after me to clean and organize the garage. Once completed even I said "yea baby".

Very simple installation. Plan, measure, shop and install in one morning. HIghly recommended.
