Poly 400 clam light
Great little light packs a brighter beam of light than you think it would. Use every day for different reasons. I have bought 3 of these so far and plan on buying more for myself and family.

Solid flashlight! Strong, durable, dog proof!
My dog loves flashlights. I bought this for him and he loves it. No joke. I needed a light that was tough enough that he wouldnt destroy it. This light is sturdy. And it has 3 settings. Another great feature. Very impressed with the quality. Thanks!

Solid and Reliable
I bought the Polysteel 400 to replace a larger MAG light that uses C cell batteries. This model used 4 AAA Batteries or a Rechargeable battery. I keep the Alkaline batteries as a backup. I store it in my truck and can charge the battery externally from the light while I can still use the light with the Alkaline Battery pack. That was important to me. I have other rechargeables that charge in the light but then I don't have the use of the light until it is charged. The light is brighter than my old C-cell Flashlight and provides light for much longer, especially on low. See the Specifications. I can use as a flood light or focus the beam. It is weather resistant. (I have an older Polysteel, so I know). I purchased two because I can always use another light. good for Emergencies or Walking the dog and quite adequate for camping since it can used rechargeable batteries or AAA Batteries. Easy to take extra along with either option available. I added the Orange Lanyard

Really bright light for the size and waterproof which is good for work because I work in places with large open vats and a lot of water around. I did have a situation recent where it didn't turn on so pulled batteries thinking the ones it came with were dead but they all had 1.4 volts. Put batteries back in a couple button pushes later it started working again. Other than that so far so good.

      Heavy Duty LED Flashlight
Coast PS400 Waterproof Focusing Flashlight is a heavy duty fist size LED flashlight and the covering is textured for a good grip . The on button is on the end and does not require you to fully engage it to get a burst of light. It’s ipx8 rated and that’s a big deal. That rating starts at 1 and goes to 8 = Meaning you drop it in your hot tub or your pool and it takes a while to find it you are OK. Focus goes from beam to flood with 3 levels of brightness and uses 4 of the smaller batteries the AAA.. It's got a place to run a lanyard or something similar from to hang it on or about something or someone. I can recommend this to anyone that needs a durable dependable flashlight. I can say dependable because its built like a tank and has a lifetime warranty. That's a long time.

      Lights the way
Perfect smaller light to pack in a glovebox, backpack, or bedside drawer. Lightweight, but sturdy as well. Solid construction and feel in my hand. One nice bonus is that the included batteries are Duracells, not some cheap no-name that goes dead in a week. And considering the battery size (4 AAA's), lasting about an hour at full intensity is pretty good. Normally the 2nd or even 3rd setting will be more than enough anyway. Changing from spot to flood is as simple as twisting the lens housing. You can do it with one hand. And distance is phenomenal. I was shining into my neighbors dining room a few doors down the block. In my video, even at lowest intensity I was still able to shine light up into the tree. Unfortunately it doesnt show well on the video, but it was a nice surprise to see it reach that far at low power.

      Way better than a bulb!
This is my first "large" LED flashlight, and it is still about half the size of an old style light. LEDs are way brighter and take less battery power to do it. It took a minute to figure out the flood vs. spotlight. Just keep clicking the button on the end. Each click changes the light intensity. Twist the head to adjust the flood, and the base to remove the battery pack, same as with a mag-lite. It came loaded with four Duracells, not the usual cheap "starter" batteries many products have. The package says waterproof to three meters. This will be my new bedside drawer flashlight. Great size, bright and fits perfectly in the hand.

      Chunky and super bright
This may be one of the brightest flashlights I own. When focused it resembles the brightness, distance and clarity of my halogen spot lamp. I can shine it at night into the woods behind my house and it provides a similar level of light as my much larger, much hotter running spotlight. It's a well made, chunky flashlight. The tail cap switch is large and easy to actuate, and the studded grip is comfortable. You can focus the lens by twisting the front of the flashlight. It's fairly tight to turn / focus, which I like. It will not move / roll around on its own. The wide area light is interesting. It is a solid, uniform light with no halo effect like you normally get in any xenon, krypton or even halogen bulb lights. When you focus it, you get a very bright innner beam with a lighter halo around it, but still a uniform halo that provides decent area coverage. My only issue with the flashlight is the instructions. It has the ability to run at three different light output levels, which is quite nice. The high output level is bright, but it can be too bright for some indoor work. Plus, the lower output levels save battery life significantly. The tail cap switch has a three-step function, cycling between high, medium and low as you turn it on and off again. If you wait for a short period of time (ten seconds, maybe) it will stop cycling through the power settings and just turn on at the high output level again. But the instructions do not explain any of this. The only thing on the instructions is a table of output power (lumens) and respective battery life. I had to figure out the three-way switch on my own.

      DURABLE AND USEFUL LED FLASHLIGHT
The COAST Poly Steel 400 LED flashlight is a high quality and really bright light that boasts some really nice features. It has three brightness settings ( high, medium and low ) plus it has a twist focus front that allows you to adjust the light from a ultra view flood beam for up close lighting to a bulls- eye spot beam for distance illumination. The PS 400 is also waterproof, crushproof and drop proof like the larger LED flashlights in the poly steel series from COAST. The body of the light has a steel core and a poly casing that surrounds the core to give the flashlights there durability. The small size, 375 lumen brightness and comfortable feel make this LED flashlight a good light to keep in a glove box, tool box or in a night stand for use when ever you need to illuminate an area. I have tossed this flashlight into a sink of water for hours, It has fallen out of my pocket at the top of my cellar stairs, and still works flawlessly.

      Focus Up
Having flashlights on hand is always smart, especially when you have a power outage. A standard run of the mill flashlight is enough for most things, but sometimes reaching for the higher end one is worth it. Enter the Coast PS400. It's very durable, has a good solid heft to it, and has a nice contoured shape that fits easily in the hand. Its size is nice and small and the material is a smooth rubber like plastic. You can tell that this thing is rugged just by how it feels and it's waterproof capability is an added bonus. For it's size, this thing can put out some serious light. It has an articulating focus aperture, allowing for a broad floodlight effect or a focused, concentrated spot light. Even the twisting travel on the articulating section of the flashlight feels good - you can tell this product has been manufactured well. It comes with a small loop hole for belt attachment as well as batteries. This is a flashlight to keep around and maybe take with you boating or driving if there's an emergency.

Great Light in a Compact Package
This is my second Coast flashlight & I'm even more impressed with this one than the first. First priority for any flashlight is that it needs to be bright, and this flashlight certainly is. It can easily illuminate the side of a building over 275 feet away. The focus of the beam is easily adjustable, and after testing this flashlight in a sink full of water, I can confirm that this model is in fact waterproof. For comparison: this model is slightly larger, feels more rugged and is brighter than my PX45. I've had that model for over 4 years & have continued to be impressed with it. Only tiny downside I found when comparing these two models is that the PX45 came with a nice lanyard and this one doesn't (though it does have a spot for one). Again, only a tiny downside. Definitely recommend!

      Very Bright.
I would recommend PS400 Waterproof focusing flashlight. It is very handy for a variety of situations. I wanted a light that I could use in different types of weather. This light is water proof so that is very handy in the rain and snow. 375 Lumens bright, really does light up a dark room. Water proof, Crush proof and Drop proof. Two light settings work great, ultra view flood and bulls eye shot. 4 AAA batteries included.

      A Great Little Light
I had previously obtained Coast’s Polysteel 200 flashlight, which runs on 3 AAA as opposed to the Polysteel 400 which takes 4 AAAs. Well, it turns out that 33% more batteries not only equals more brightness, but it also makes for a larger, heftier flashlight that just feels better overall. The 400 is identical to the 200, just larger and brighter. It has three brightness settings, that all effect range and drain (on the batteries). Supposedly, at max brightness the light should stay powered for 50 minutes and project a beam 633ft. I didn’t have anywhere to test out the range, but the light has been going strong without any indication of diminished brightness and I have used it for over half an hour now. It’s waterproof and waterproof to 3m, which is pretty hard to complain about. I’ve dropped it many times already (it would be handy if it came with a lanyard) and it has no discernable markings from my poor handling skills. Lumens are rated at 375/140/41 for different brightness settings. Different settings are controlled by pushing the button on the end of the light multiple times. Overall, a really great little light!

            My partner in lighting
Coast 400 Polysteel was my first purchase of a high quality flashlight. It is still almost at my side for different tasks and has never failed me. I had purchased other Coast products over the years and they stand up to rough goings. Will always be my first choice for any future purchases.

Sometimes great companies drop the ball
I buy lots of lights and knives from Coast. In fact I bought 10 flashlights and 8 knives as Christmas gifts just a couple months ago. A couple years ago I bought a couple Polysteel 400 lights as backup lights to my Polysteel 1000 lights I keep in my cars. Last week I went to use one of the Polysteel 400 lights and it didn't turn on. I used it for a couple minutes just a month before but batteries are expected to go out. I opened the light to find the factory supplied batteries had leaked and corroded the battery pack and gotten into the body of the light. The lights were a few years old but there is no way the batteries had beed depleted or expired. Upon calling Coast I was informed that they do not cover damage from battery leaks, even if the leak is caused by defective batteries they sell or supply. However, as a courtesy they would do a one time replacement with the caveat that any future lights damaged by battery leakagr, even if it's their batteries, would not be covered. This is not ok as all normal battery companies will cover damaged items as long as the battery has not passed it's expiration date. Most batteries have an expiration date of around 10 years after the date of manufacture. The Coast representative was very nice and as statehad offered a one time replacement, however this is not addressing a legitimate issue. If you supply batteries and they damage a customer's product, you should cover the item if your batteries leak prior to the expiration date. The rep recommended that I check all my flashlight batteries ever 6 months to see if they are leaking. Ahhhh no ma'am. You can't sell defective things and put the responsibility on the customer. I have had batteries left in flashlights and other devices for 5 years and some longer without issue. Granted if a battery is totally dead, exposed to water, or other chemicals they can leak. And they can leak after their expiration date when totally discharged but they shouldn't leak without actual cause. She also stated temperature extremes can cause premature leakage. Yes this can happen but typically won't happen unless they are sitting in the sun, or otherwise being baked. I have several other lights in this car with even older batteries and none of them have had an issue. So my options are to utilize my one time courtesy replacement or save it in the event one of my more expensive lights gets damaged from a battery Coast sells or provides. These are not great options. Coast will provide a response to the effect of, "Please contact us regarding your issue." I already did and got a subpar answer. I am seriously questioning my loyalty to Coast. I have Coast lights going back almost 20 years. Maybe it's time to look at other companies or at least better battery manufacturers that will stand behind their products and fix damage caused by a defective product without limiting a customer's future options.
