Oldie but goodie
This is by far the best grill we ever owned. I put some money into it this year. I picked up som cast iron grates and griddle. I was thinking of a new Blackstone but for less then half the cost I have more versatility. And I can do one thing the new lx grills can’t do.

    Great Little Grill
I'm so glad I purchased this grill. I definitely recommend it. The product was packaged extremely well. It took me probably less than 10 minutes to set up. Very easy to use and started right up. I cooked a steak and it was cooked perfectly. My steak cooked evenly with no sticking to the grate. I purchased the cover and that is well made also.....heavy material.

In general this is a fantastic grill. It comes with a griddle and grate combo and if you want to grill both sides, you'll need to buy another grate. Same for the griddle option. I found the table itself a little clumsy to put up and take down. The sides pop out of the middle and snap in on the ends. That's all good. But to get them out I suggest using a dull knife or screwdriver to gently nudge them from the holes. Be cautious with the table legs. The pop out buttons can get stuck in and then the table is not stable. It has an adapter for attaching a bottle gas unit and those units run about $4. You can also buy a longer hose adapter and attach it to a larger gas canister. The cooking area is not that big but enough for 4 people eating at the same time (as long as you have both sides to work with. For a travel unit, you need to have 1x2x4 feet of space for storage. It would have been nice if the table had wheels and you could roll it around as one unit. Alas, this is something you have to carry. The gas grill itself, sans table, works great on a picnic table or other sturdy surface as well. As with all coleman products, the unit itself is one of the best.

The road trip 2 burner propane grill comes in a fashionable blue lid, black side handles for easy carrying, left/right burners, regulator assembly, a removal water pan for easy cleaning of grease and all, removable grill and griddle that you can mix and match to either burners. The regulator assembly is only for coleman 16.4 oz disposable propane cylinders. You have the option to purchase a high pressure hose & adapter to attach a 15 pound propane tank which I will do for certain. I found the 16.4 oz propane cylinder only last nearly an hour while both burner are on full force. It's a bit of a hassle having to change the cylinders in between cooking meals. This LX grill is for outdoor use only and is compact. This grill is very portable for table top or with the collapsible stand for your convenience. The Collapsible stand is a separate piece that is included in the pack. It's easy to put together, just be certain to look over the manual for proper set up. I did have a bit of trouble having the holes align on the stand to put the side table to snap in. I've added photos so you may get a visual. The stand has an easy carry handle while it's in storage position. I'm overall happy with the grill and collapsible stand.

We've used this Coleman RoadTrip LX proprane grill a couple of times while on a camping trip, and so far we really like it. Setting it up was not very hard at all according to my teengage son who volunteered to put the grill together; it took him all of 15 minutes which included taking the item out of the box. It does come with a detailed instruction booklet with pictures and attaching a propane tank was quite easy as well. The cooktop/grill sits on metal stand (not sure if this is aluminum or steel, but it's not super heavy), and the stand has two side tables that fold out, which you can use for holding spice and condiment bottles, etc. It's also possible to use the cooktop/grill without the stand, and you can just place it on a outdoor tabletop. The cooktop/grill itself is quite sizeable with a large, deep lid and two large burners, and it also comes with a half-size griddle top, which fits over one of the burners, as well as half-size grill grate which fits over the other burner. You can purchase a full-size griddle or a full-size stove grate separately to go with this cooktop/grill as well, making it even more versatile. It is possible to put a pan on the grill-grate (see my pictures) if you wanted to use one side for just frying something in a pan instead of grilling. The one sort of negative we found is that when using the griddle, it obscures the burner making it impossible to see the flame and thus difficult to determine the temperature you're cooking at. Of course, the control knob still shows if you have the burner set on high or low, but that's not the same as being able to see the flame itself. We also found that stand is just a slight bit wobbly, but as long as it's put on a flat, stable surface it shouldn't be too noticeable. The electric igniter is great, all you have to do is turn on the propane, turn on one or both control knobs for the burners, click the igniter and you're ready to grill/cook. The cooktop/grill has also been very easy to wipe clean, which is a big plus as when you're camping you don't want to spend a lot of time cleaning. We look forward to many years of grilling pleasure on our camping trips with this Coleman Roadtrip LX propane grill!.

This is not just another travel grill. Coleman has made some ingenious innovations that transform it from a mediocre little grill into a terrific outdoor kitchen. I am referring particularly to their 'SwapTop' system of interchangeable grates. The grill comes with a grill grate on one side and a flat griddle on the other ( each side has its own burner. ) You can get a second one of each, to make the grill all-grill or all-griddle. Both have a non-stick coating that can be cleaned in the kitchen sink like anything else, which is really nice. But most useful of all is a chrome steel stove grate that converts the grill into a first-rate camp stove that you can use with any pot or frying pan. Another innovation is the non-stick steel water tray that surrounds the burners, in lieu of a conventional drip tray. This is supposed to catch all the drippings, but actually a bit sneaks down around the burners, which have very small catch rings around them. When those overflow, the grease will drip right out of the grill onto whatever is below. Some sort of external drip tray will take care of this possibility. There is room enough under the grill for a disposable cookie sheet, or a piece of aluminum foil, just to be safe. After a week of frequent use, no grease has yet escaped from my grill, but I did have to clean around the burner. A big batch of hamburgers could mess up your deck or tabletop. The water tray is not so easy to clean, unless you can just spill it out on the ground right where you are. Carrying a wide tray full of greasy water is tricky, especially if you fill it up to the mark. I suggest no more than two cups of water. The tray also does not fit in the sink. A much better design would be a split water tray, matching the grates. I have already forgotten to put water in the tray - no harm done, I just scraped out some scrambled egg and gave it to the dog, and scrubbed the tray clean. The water tray is a good idea, but Coleman still needs to work on it. ( I hope they read this. ) Another accessory that is well worth it is an adapter hose for a standard 20 pound propane bottle. I estimate that the small 1-pound camping bottles are 3-4 times the cost of a big bottle. As far as economy goes, the smaller burners are canceled-out by longer cooking times, but the smaller area and internal volume of this grill compared to a full-sized one should make it more efficient for smaller jobs. The adapter hose will pay for itself with the first big bottle you use. The main construction of the grill is stamped steel. No surprise - it is supposed to be lightweight and portable. The plastic and aluminum folding stand is a little shaky, but serviceable. The grill is not attached to the stand, so using a picnic table is a better option, just remember what I said above about drips. If you know there will be a suitable place for the grill where you are going, you can leave the stand home. In my case, I used the stand for a permanent mounting. A single wire tie to the patio railing steadied it up considerably. The side trays are small but useful, just be careful not to get grease all over them - use a plate. Strictly as a grill, its not great, but it works. You shouldn't expect too much - just look at the size of it. A 'real' grill is much taller, with several inches between the flame and the cooking grate. This space is generally filled with some material like lava rocks or steel angles to diffuse the heat and burn up the drips. There just isn't room for that here, the geometry is much more like a gas stove, with the flame just an inch below the grate. It takes some extra care not to burn things - don't walk away and get distracted. Also, with the flame right there, you tend to get more flare-ups than with a bigger deeper grill. If you work at it ( and I did, see pictures, ) you can make some pretty impressive flames. They look worse than they are - not much heat in them really. The grill grate has a large solid section in the center covering the burner to keep grease off it. This actually makes it more flexible. For example, hot dogs burn very fast on any grill, and you can protect them from direct heat on the solid section. Or you can use it for a bun warmer. Steaks, hamburgers, and chicken came out just fine, the solid section didn't seem to make much difference, and you get nice grill marks all over. The lid is pretty low, you could probably fit a split chicken under it, but nothing bigger. So, strictly as a grill, I would say that this is not as good as a 'real' grill, but gets the job done adequately, and you really can't expect more of it. Both the grill grate and the griddle have raised lips around the circumference to keep you from pushing things off the edge - a necessary feature. Where this grill really shines is its flexibility, and that's where we get to the griddle. The griddle is perfect for breakfasts - bacon, ham, pork roll, pancakes, french toast, etc. Not so much eggs, as they make a beeline for the openings around the edges and end up in the water tray if you are not quick. Also good for cheesesteaks. I'd say the heat on high is roughly equivalent to my kitchen stove on 4. I usually run the stove on 6, so the heat under the big griddle is a little anemic. ( You could also run it on 'start', which I haven't tried, may not be a good idea. ) That just means things take a little longer to cook, and are harder to burn. I wouldn't expect a portable grill to have the same power as a kitchen stove. The last 'SwapTop' accessory is the one that is not included, but probably the most useful of all - the stove grate. The stove grate converts the grill into a first rate gas stove. Use your favorite pots and pans, make coffee, do pretty much anything you'd do on your kitchen stove, albeit with less power, similar to using the griddle. Scrambled eggs in a frying pan works much better than on the griddle. Coleman should include the stove grate and make the griddle an accessory - we all have pots and pans. The stove grate is the most inexpensive of all the accessories, and I recommend you order one immediately. Or two - and convert an ok grill into a terrific camp stove. I don't see much use for a second griddle, but a second grill grate would be useful if you have lots of mouths to feed. Lastly, I tried some experiments. I added a thermometer to the lid - I drilled a 5/16" hole above the Coleman logo for it. You can set temperature pretty well between 300 and 450 degrees, so even light baking is possible. By running the burner on low on just one side and closing the lid, you can bake small items on the other side without burning the bottoms. Biscuits and cookies came out alright on the griddle, and brownies worked out in a pan on the stove grate. Baking is tricky, you have to ride shotgun on it. With care, you can make toast too. One thing I haven't tried is a lobster, I don't have one handy. So who is this good for? Camping, obviously, and day trips where portability matters. But it also makes a great outdoor cooking station for one or two people. The small size means you won't burn through half a bottle of gas to make one or two hamburgers, and the wide range of things you can do on it make it much more useful than a 'real' gas grill. Whatever shortcomings it has as a grill are more than made-up-for by everything else it can do - pretty much anything except deep-frying. I especially like cooking outside and not heating up the house when the A/C is on. I couldn't be more pleased with it. Note: You could conceivably overheat and ruin the stock aluminum grate and griddle, but I think that would require gross negligence or deliberate effort. The accessory versions are cast iron, supposedly. Also, to avoid damaging the non-stick coatings, use your regular plastic kitchen utensils, not metal grilling tools.

The Coleman RoadTrip LX is a great portable grill. Very easy to assemble, well packaged, and has easy to understand instructions. The regulator is detachable, which allows for a very easy connection with the propane cylinder, I very much like this feature. It comes with a grill and griddle plate, which have a nonstick coating, and are dishwasher safe. It cleans up very easily, and has 20,000 BTU's. This is a great grill.

This is a nice grill that's ideal for use in a mostly permanent location like on a deck, boat or RV. It has a good amount of surface area, and the included griddle gives you some versatility in what you can cook. The grill heats up in a hurry and the electronic ignition makes lighting it a breeze. The stand is a little awkward to assemble and move around, but this grill isn't really designed to be moved a lot & it's perfectly sturdy enough to withstand normal wind, rain, etc. You can lift the grill out of the stand easily if you want to take it with you to use on a picnic table or something. The only thing I think this grill is lacking is a thermometer. It's not a huge deal, but I do find it helpful to have a general reference as to what the temperature is. All in all, nice grill with plenty of surface area that's easy to use!

Perfect for campers, tailgaters and picnics. The three year warranty is comforting. When assembled, this stove is about 28 inches at it's lowest leg height and extends fully to about 36 inches. It can be used on table tops. It is simple to build and break down. The leg base, when everything is latched into place, seems relatively solid. The stove is a nice gauge metal and both leg assembly and stove should last for a long time with proper care. It takes me about 2 full minutes to assemble and then disassemble the entire stove/stand.The ignitor worked the few times I tried it. The cooking surfaces are non stick coated and heavy gauge aluminum. They are also dishwasher safe. There is a propane holder bracket attached to the stove that I feel is very cheap metal. Easy to bend. The instruction book is very good with clear pictures. There is also a parts and accessory list within the manual. The instructions strongly suggest adding water to the stove under the burners for easier clean up. The lid latch is easily bendable, but works. There is an optional wired stove grate available. No clue as to why Coleman doesn't include it within the stove kit. This stove is set up to use the smaller 16.4 ounce propane canister. Also available for purchase is a 5 foot hose and adapter for regular propane tanks. Over all, I like the grill.

NO AVAILABLE CASE for transporting it
Bought a Coleman RoadTrip Classic LX Grill Blue, for my RV but apparently they no longer make a case for it and I'm having difficulty locating anything suitable, nothing better than a ROADTRIP that can't be easily taken on a "ROADTRIP" without it bouncing around in your vehicle. By the way haven't even used it yet.

            A Terrifying Experience
We have owned a Coleman RoadTrip LX grill for many years and it has served us well on numerous camping trips. That is until last week, when the grill began making a loud whistling noise and then suddenly exploded into a fireball. Flames were leaping from all areas of the grill. My son was able to free our family dog, who had tangled her leash around the picnic table directly below the flames, as my disabled wife scurried for safety. I shut off the one burner that was on, with no effect to the flames. At this point I unscrewed the nearly full propane canister from the grill and flames shot out of the valve like a flame thrower. But after that I was able to smother the remaining flames without further incident. Why the grill burst into flames I can't say. We clean the grill after each meal, so it wasn't due to grease build up and the flames died out as soon as the propane source was removed. Just prior we had been cooking our evening meal with it. We believe the valve became faulty, as it now rattles. The grill is now ruined, but except for some minor burns and singed hair, my family and I are safe, but for those few minutes, it was a terrifying experience..

Worst grill I have ever owned!
Bought this model to travel with us in our 5th wheel 3 years ago. 1st incident: Grease flare up when grilling bacon MELTED the slats on the grill half grid! Eventually replaced this with Coleman heavier cast iron grid. 2nd Issue: Coleman suggests partially filling pan below burners with water! Another review suggested this was good! My issue was what do you do with a pan load of greasy goo after your done cooking? Their is no provision for draining this mess! With the double burner, there is no way of cleaning this without dripping this crop all over your campsite! 3rd issue: with the stand and the grill, it's not very portable and does occupy more space than it deserves. 4th issue: Every piece of metal that gets heated rusts and becomes a flaky mess! I've thought through some "field fixes" but with the level of rust....I'm shopping for a stainless steel table top model that has a tad more thought put into its design.

                RoadTrip LX Grill
We have had our RoadTrip LX Grill for about 6 or 7 years. We use it exclusively for camping and it has been to many places in 5 states and grilled untold amounts of hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, shrimp, chicken, bacon, salmon and hash brown potatoes. When it's not set up at camp, it lives in our 5th wheel trailers storage compartment. It gets cleaned thoroughly every trip then put away in it's rolling bag. Since the kids are grown and don't come with us camping anymore and we only cook a couple of steaks or burgers now I'm inclined to downsize to the Coleman X-Cursion, mainly to save space and weight in our trailer. (Of course if Coleman would like to send me a blue X-Cursion to try out and give my feedback on it, I wouldn't say no to that) Overall, I'm very pleased with the LX Grill and would replace it with another Coleman Grill if and when the time comes.

Also the grills on this second unit are TRASHED after 2 years !! I clean these every time I use them. But they are all rusted and not use able any more. I have to replace them. So I'm getting the Griddle top We shall see if this is also an inferior product. The grill I love small enough for 2 people use. I wish if the ignition issue is on going then FIX IT.

Purchased to replace the capital grill supplied with my RV. We also purchased the cast iron grate which i do NOT like. The supplied aluminum grate performed wonderfully, however the cast iron allowed food to stick and was very difficult to clean. I researched if i could purchase another aluminum grate and everything I found was the cast iron one. I will avoid using the aluminum one and accept the lesson and waste of money for the cast iron one. I keep searching for an aluminum one.

                              Broken Igniter
I've only used this grill twice and the igniter is already broken. I have to remove the grill plate and light it manually, which is more than a little inconvenient.
