Thank you for posting your feedback. We’re sorry to see our low star review DAP Plastic Wood Professional Wood Filler. Note to self: do not buy again. Outdoor use fails.
Dap CANNOT be sealed against water outdoors. Other brands are designed to cure harden using moisture. Dap absorbs moisture through wood or air even sealed. A year ago, filled cracks in the railing and cycles of sealing, coating with polyurethane. Dap PULLED IN moisture, grew algae, bubbled up layers of poly and split the railing protection. Hardened on the deck weeks ago, with first little rain, the sealant coating is all bubbled up from underneath and shredded away exposing mush. 500 chars max.

Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Plastic Wood Latex Wood Filler. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Exterior applications must be coated with latex or oil-based paint or solid color stain”. The only way that the product would behave as described is if there was moisture exposure. This means that water is entering the patch through the coating system or bypassing it (from the edges or from underneath). For applications where moisture is a concern, we would recommend the use of DAP Weatherproof Patching Compound. Unlike other wood patches and spackling compounds, this formula is designed for stand-alone performance. Because you did not provide any information on your application conditions, application surfaces, surface preparation or application technique, we are not able to provide more specific product usage/corrective guidance in this format. Should you wish to provide this information, so we can better address your concerns and/or to provide more specific use guidance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477. Disappointed
After over 48 hours since it was applied to wood that was hardened before dap application, it rained and the stain as well as dap came apart / washed away. Didn’t accept stain and also didn’t hold up to weather. Extremely disappointed

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood All Purpose Wood Filler. Plastic Wood is not designed or recommended for use as a "stand alone" product, as indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Exterior applications must be coated with latex or oil-based paint or solid color stain”. The only way that the product would behave as described, is if there was moisture exposure. This means that water is entering the patch through the paint/stain/coating or bypassing it (from the edges or from underneath). For applications where moisture is a concern, we would recommend the use of DAP Platinum Patch Advanced Exterior Filler. Unlike other wood patches and spackling compounds, this formula is designed for stand-alone performance. Dry When Opened -- Three weeks after purchase
I bought a tube of this on November 29, and tried to use it today, three weeks later. After cutting the tip off, and forcing a nail into it, and squeezing it with both hands, I got some very dry product. This is unacceptable; comments on reviews say that it can expire on the shelf; Home Depot shouldn't sell expired product. But it's probably not their fault, because the product info on the seal is also unintelligible. Looking at other reviews, I guess I will try Elmer's.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood All Purpose Wood Filler. Based on your description of the product's thick/stiff texture and difficulty encountered while attempting to dispense the product, it would appear that you may have purchased or are attempting to use material that is beyond its normal shelf life. As product ages, it will thicken to the point of becoming difficult or impractical to use. This is probably the best wood filler I’ve used for filling deep holes. I cutout some old treads in a stair case remodel and used this to fill the slots in integrated slotted stringer. Sanded smooth as butter and hard as a rock,

Awful color matching; didn't take stain.
I'm sure this product is fine for projects that will be painted, but do not attempt to match an existing wood with it and stain it. The "red oak" is a clay red; looks nothing like unfinished red oak. I assumed it must dry lighter than it looks on the tube. Nope-- what you see is what you get. I thought sure staining it would help. It did not take my General Finishes water-based stain at all.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood All Purpose Wood Filler. This is a plastic type filler that works great. After 2 days of curing/setting, you can sand or scrape access and reapply to build up beyond the eighth inch application. Plus it can be painted.

            Not Stainable
I used this product to fill bee holes on my cedar home. We followed all the instructions. Stained the home and this product is not sustainable! This product is awful and when it dries it's even more awful because you can't remove it. I felt that Dap had been around for years so that I could trust it but my home is ruined. Not sure what I'm going to do. Do not buy this product! You will cry like I did. I never gives reviews but I wanted to warn others on this aweful product.

              Permanent unwanted stain
I built a tongue and groove natural wood accent wall and used this putty to cover the brad nailer marks. Put very little putty on each hole, sanded it down as usual, then wiped away the dust with a damp paper towel. It left a permanent stain on each mark. I’ve tried sanding it down more and used a construction stain remover with no luck. I regret using this wood putty after putting so much time and effort into one wall. Please don’t buy.

WOW so much better than Elmer's
I wish I had tried this product sooner, I love a good wood filler and love how quickly this stuff dried, sanded and looked when done, Also the dispenser toothpaste style is a 10 fold step up from a small plastic cup with lid that dries up on its own after 1 use. Including different tones to choose from (hint dries a little lighter than what's in the bottle)

This DAP plastic wood left a strange stain
This DAP wood filler left a purpleish stain in the edgebanding of my cabinets. It didn't go away. I had to remake three of the cabinets because of it. I called DAP about it and they said they would reimburse me for the filler. They suggested there was some type of contaminant in my shop. (No way) Normal wood shop conditions. What about the hundreds I spent on plywood, edgebanding, etc. What about the time it took to cut and build them. Don't buy this stuff. Unless you like purple stains that won't sand away. Or rubbing alcohol away. The stain didn't go away.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood All-Purpose Latex Wood Filler. Given that this product does not contain any "purple" colorants/pigments, if the product was not observed to have a "purple" color in the package upon breaking the tamper evident lid seal (to initially open the package for first use), it it is reasonable to conclude that the color you reference did not come from the wood filler. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss this in more detail, or would like to submit you remaining product for evaluation, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477. The product dries up after being opened and becomes hard as a rock after only 1 use. Customer service helpless "add water to tube." Dap puts liability on Home Depot..."return it to HD and have them contact us." Waste of money! Elmer's wood filler lasts after being opened.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood All Purpose Wood Filler. Based on your commentary indicating: "The product dries up after being opened and becomes hard as a rock after only 1 use", it would appear to indicate that the package was not properly sealed following its last use. Even a small gap in the package lid/can seal will allow the liquid components to evaporate, causing the product to dry/thicken. This can also occur if the product is stored in poor conditions (elevated temperatures) and/or beyond its shelf life. Because you did not provide any details regarding your experience, it is difficult to provide you with a proper reply or any product usage guidance in this format. It works but it will look weird for big holes
I had a really old Adirondack chair that was chewed by a squirrel in the arm rest. The product dried well and sanded fine. Because I had to add a bunch of material, when I painted over it looked weird like you can tell there is a patch there because it looks smooth. I guess the problem with a chair like mine is that the wood is not smooth thus it is easy to spot where the patch is under the paint. But is an easy solution and works great for cracks or smaller holes.

I worked up some bowls that were made from spalted maple. I did not want to stain the wood but use Tung Oil finish. I wanted a wood putty which blended with the maple and would accept the Tung Oil finish. The Plastic Wood Natural worked great! I have used the Walnut finish with equal success!

Off to Home, depot for some for some Great Stuff gap and crack and Dap Plastic wood!, after filling and trimming the insulating foam, applying the DAP Plastic wood, Letting it dry in between coats and sanding lightly my door is repaired waiti g to put on my last coat. I prefer to wait a couple od days between coats when using over a foam or for a large patch. I love this filler.

I was refinishing my wide plank living room and dining room floor that has some really huge knots in it, and also some smaller knots that are no longer there and a few knots that no longer fit well in their knot holes and lets not forget a few huge gouges and a bunch of other large imperfections that I wanted to fill including a very large chunk that was missing around a nail, it is a face nailed floor that is nailed with cut nails. I filled in every knot hole, check crack, and gouge with this product. I also removed a nail form a large crack, filled the crack and reset the nail into the wood filler. There were a few knots that were still in their knot holes but no longer actually fit, I was able to remove the knots, fill the holes, and replace the knot so that it was just above the surface of the floor. I waited 2 full days (48 hours) and sanded the wood filler back on everything I had filled with great results. The nail I had set into the filler was able to be set just below the surface after sanding so it matched other nails in the floor, and every one of the knots that I set in the filler stayed in place and was able to be sanded flush with no problem. I have attached a photo showing the several types of repair I did after I laid down the polyurethane. My only regret is not dying the filler, still I ended up with a great floor.
