nice product used for years prices too high

I have used this product for 15 years and have always been satisfied with it. I would drive across town to find it if the local store was out, but the last 2 cans I have bought exploded and dried out. I have always closed the lid properly and stored upside down, as directed. After one can exploded and dried out, I went and bought another. The same thing just happened again this week. It's far too expensive to buy another if all I am getting is a few uses per can. I will attach a picture. Something had happened to the formula and I will not be using it again.

Been using this product for years and it has always served me well. From most of the reviews I'm going to chalk it up to user error and not product quality. If used to fill large holes or deep cracks, best practice is to add in thin layers until built up. Using large amounts at once will cause it to shrink, compromising the bond leading to failure. Stop blaming others from your own ignorance and or incompetence.

I bought a 4 Oz can of this recently. It had a big bubble in it that collapsed when I tried to stir it, leaving about 3/8 in of product (almost dry) on the bottom of the can. I emailed DAP and told them about it. they said they started leaving more space in the can at the request of consumers. Baloney.

Brand new 4 ounce can was opened and the putty flowed outward and had to be pushed back in to mix. The can was only half full. I didn't expect a lot of putty from a 4 ounce can but I only had some cracks to fill on a 2x4x6. The 4 ounce half of a can barely did the job. I would not buy this product again.

I've used it since my father taught me to long ago. I was unpleasantly surprised when I opened my latest new can. It was at most half full.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My dog chewed the leg of my end table. This wood filler was so easy to use and made it look brand new again. I kept adding layers until I got the desired thickness for the leg to match the others, then lightly sanded to smooth it back out and shape it. I then chalk painted over it and gave my tables a whole new look! This product was so easy to use, and saved me from buying new tables. It dried pretty fast too. I was able to finish my whole project in a weekend. I keep looking around to see what I can renew next!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This did a great job on some deep gouges I had in a solid wood door, about 1/2 inch deep, and an inch long. I made sure to overfill them and it dried hard as wood in about 20 minutes. This is my first time this product and it's easy to use. The instructions are clear and helped get me started right away. I have more projects I'm going to use this on. It does have a strong smell to it as I expected, so definitely make sure you have ventilation. I recommend it, much cheaper than replacing when you can repair.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would buy this product again. I received a sample from Viewpoints's. It goes on nice and smooth. Doesn't shrink when dried. It work great on small or large areas. Easy to sand, clean, and easy to paint over. I recommend you buy this.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the DAP plastic wood solvent professional wood filler on a do it yourself project in my home. I had to install a new window beside my back door where a sliding door used to be, there were small little gaps in places and this product worked great. I then painted the trim and wall white and the paint went on the dap smooth and looks great i would deffinilty recommend this product to family and friends and i will use it again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This wood filler was much better than anything I've used previously. I was doing work on my deck and I had a spot where the weather split the wood. I sanded it, applies the filler, let it cure and it sanded just like real wood. Applied the stain directly to it and you could hardly tell there was a spot there. Highly recommended product.

I used the natural color and loved how it blends as real wood where you can stain it, sand it, or even drill it! Yes drill it! It is that strong! I would for sure recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quality plastic wood!

As a custom cabinet builder, I've use this product for years. The last tub I bought wasn't even half full! The one side was only about a 1/2" deep. I wish I would've weighed it but I had 6 cabinets waiting for paint.

Ok so i sanded and applied my 2nd layer sanded again after just an hour and added a little in the divets i let that dry again an hour and sanded...pics below This piece i used it on is 1950's and shabby chic'd no need for it to absolutely flawless (justifying)....however i was able to build the bottom and fill in this cavity ...the big chunk of wood missing that made this piece ugly is now in the past...just need to do a little more sanding, chalk painting and its as good as the rest of the original wood....smooth as a babys butt :)

Holds a good form, easy to use to fill in large missing wood My first layer I let dry overnight total of about 15 hours...rock hard setting this morning...sand and build another layer should be able to paint by tomorrow morning...i will upload another pic when done

I use the solvent based in my acoustic drum building. I can drill through it, sets fast and dries very hard. I keep acetone on hand to keep it pliable and for clean up. By far the best product on the market. Takes stain well and sands very nicely. Extremely volatile, so keep it well ventilated or use a good mask

Plastic Wood has always has been a good wood filler that works better than most water-based fillers. Dries fast, grips well to wood surfaces, sands very nicely, and paints and stains hold well. Store with lid TIGHTLY closed with lid on the bottom to preserve the ease of application.

It was less than half full and almost completely dried out. Nothing to stir. I attempted to use it with poor results. Maybe it was old. Possible manufactured date code on the lid with day of the year and '19. An expensive waste of time.

Does not sit well and dries too fast

Worked very well! Used it to fill knots in some cedar decking! Filled and sanded nicely.

The product worked as advertised.

DAP plastics wood takes forever to dry. Will never purchase again.

Great product i have used the plastic wood filler for years on many different projects or repairs. This product is great it dries quickly and can be sanded and stained for a nice finished look to match the original color of your wood. I highly recommend this product.

I recently had a project that used materials sensitive to water-based fillers. I've used DAP oil-based Plastic Wood in the past and so thought this would be a good choice. And although I was able to use this product to successfully fill roughly a dozen small nail holes in my project, the material itself left a lot to be desired. The can was way less than half full, and a large clump of material was stuck to the lid and already dry. In the few minutes that it took me to fill the holes in my project, the rest of the material was already skinning over. It was impossible to stir it as recommended in the instructions because there wasn't enough product in the can to even attempt to do that without it drying out and becoming unusable. Clearly this was old stock, or the can wasn't sealed properly, but it was really disappointing, given the price. In the future I think I'll just mix sawdust with a non-water-based slow drying adhesive and do it that way.
