Refinishing a deck? Skip the floor stripper. Skip the cleaner. Waste of money and time. Go straight to the rental department and rent a floor sander (full disclosure ... I did power wash first, and let the deck completely dry out). This paper (DIABLO 12 in. x 18 in. 36-Grit Sanding Sheet with StickFast Backing) used with a buffing pad (DIABLO 12 in. x 18 in. Non-Woven Red Buffer Pad) attached to the Clark American Standard Square Buff Floor Sander (or the Hitachi Orbital Deck & Floor Sander, which I could not find locally) is the only way to go for refinishing your deck. One sheet of the 36 grit paper did two passes over my 130 sf deck, and took it right down to bare wood. The paper looked like it could do more. I followed with one pass of 60 grit, and a final pass with 80 grit. I blew off the deck with a leaf blower, and put down a coat of Cabot Aussie Timber Oil. Beautiful. Read the rest of the possessive reviews for more tips. Best tip? Buy a cushion pad for each sheet of sand paper. Don't try to reuse cushion pad with another sheet of sand paper. Get extra sand paper and pads. You can return what you don't use. Tip 2: for an extra 20 bucks, rent the sander for the whole day. Tip 3: I was able to buy single sheets of paper and pads. I bought two sheets each of 36 grit, 60 grit, and 80 grit, and 6 pads. Only used one sheet each of sand paper. Hence, used only 3 cushion pads. When I returned the sander, I returned the unused paper and pads for a refund. Tip 4: buy a can of 3m 77 spray adhesive just in case you can't seem to get the sand paper to stick to the pad. I had no trouble at all with the paper sticking to the pads, and also returned the can of adhesive. Tip 5: This should go without saying. Watch a bunch of Youtube videos on deck sanding and refinishing. Duh!

This sandpaper was exactly what I needed. I was sanding a small 9x6 area by hand and I needed a heavy duty paper.

Worked great. Does the job. Make sure once you stick it to the buffer pad you leave it on until the grit sheet is completely used up. IF you remove it - know that the sanding sheet will NOT restick. Its over. I wasted 8 sheets like this. Not the products fault. User learning curve. Good product.

We were sanding a brand new wood floor which required 3 different grit types. Make sure YOU GET 3 different white pads that your Grit sanding sheets can stick to. If you remove the sanding sheet before it is all used up there is NO putting it back. :/ Once you have removed the sheet it will not re-stick later if you want to use it later. I wasted 8 sanding sheets doing that. So, make sure you have a white pad for each grit you using. Hope this helps somebody. The machine worked great and the pads did the trick! LOVE the dust bag on the machine.

I used this on a floor sander rental. I started off with 120 grit so as to not take too much off. well it barely scratched the Varathane coating. I then went to 80 then 60. 60 worked well but after doing a 6ft x 6ft radius the sand paper lost it's bite. It still sanded but took much more effort to get the same results.

The pad where only good for 5 min a session and the clerk failed to tail me I needed the pad for the buffer for sand paper to stick so I wasted one right off the back. And the rest lasted me only 5 min a piece and it didn’t do the job I was told it would do

I was very pleased with this product it took the floor finish off in no time flat.

Pad performed well

I glued this to a board to have a large stationary sanding area for doing longer edges and to get rid of cutting marks from a box top and body after the top is cut off. Works great for that. It is adhesive backed but I used contact cement on the paper and the board and it is holding great. I left the board longer than the paper on one side so it could be clamped down.

The 36 grit made a fast first cut, however the adhesive was not strong enough to secure the paper to the pad of the orbital floor sander for more than one pass. Lost 2 sanding sheets in the first 5 minutes Solution was t use a high tack spray adhesive to attach the sanding sheet permanently.

Works well for sanding edges of hardwood floors.

This product doesn't work with a floor orbital sander as recommended by the Home Depot Rental Department. The Tool Rental Department recommended this product. It doesn't work. Sanding dust gets under the adhesive pad and clogs the adhesive. The sand paper stayed on the sander for about 10-12 seconds. If this product were to come with a hook and loop pad (like Velcro) then it would probably work much better. I ended up cutting up the sandpaper and used it on my hand orbital sander (that has clips to hold the paper in place while sanding.

I bought the Diablo sanding sheets (60, 80 and 120 grit) to use on an orbital floor sander (Home Depot Rental) as recommended by the rental department. The backing is adhesive, whereas, the floor sander had what appeared to be hooks. It took less than 30 seconds for the sandpaper to become ineffective at sanding. I ended up cutting up the sanding sheets and used them on my hand orbital sander. Buyer beware. The product wasn't bad just the recommended application.
