Great chainsaw for the price. Not a bad idea to adjust the chain tension each time you refill with gas. Easy start.

Great Saw!
I’ve had mine 8 years good little saw, starts every time. Main thing to remember is store all gas burning equipment with empty tanks and make sure the equipment runs all the gas out of the carburetor. I highly recommend the saw! 5 stars! Can’t go wrong with buying this saw!

    Impessive saw.
My Echo is over 5 years old. Starts in two pulls, runs like a champ. Keep the blade sharp and it outperforms Husqvarna and Stihl chainsaws. A great bang for the buck

      Reliability
Have 3 Stihl saws and 4 echo saws. For the money, reliability, versatility and power this is my first go to saw. Highly recommend this if you only need one saw.

Great saw for around the house
I bought this needing a saw that could handle firewood and cleaning up trees around my woods. It does not disappoint. assembly was easy. starting it is easy. it's lightweight but rugged. I highly recommend this if you need that medium sized saw but don't want to spend $500 on the commercial version

          Amazing!
This thing was under 2ft of flood water for a couple days thanks to Hurricane Ian & still runs like a top. Amazing product! Would buy again.

            "CARB Compliant"
The gas tank and bar oil tank are not see-through. So in order to fill them up, you have to add a little liquid, then shine a flashlight into the tank, and repeat. The one major problem is it is very hard to start. I choked it, primed the bulb, and pulled and pulled and would not start. I took the plug out and it is completely dry. This is a California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant engine, meaning it is set up to run extremely lean. It finally does start after about 20 pulls.

Going on four years, still love it.
I love this chainsaw. It's my go-to saw while my Stihl V.031 just sits around waiting. My CS-400 has the 18" bar and it's just right. We spend our summers in New Hampshire clearing our woodlot in order to build when (or if...) I retire. This saw doesn't quit. Starts right up every time. Don't run it without bar oil and flip the bar every time you change the chain and it will last forever. I can't think of anything I don't like about it and would buy another without giving it a second thought.

                Can't change saw blade
The saw blade on this model is almost impossible to replace due to poor design. There is a clamp that has to go around the clutch and not enough room to spread the clamp out without modifying the body of the unit. Maybe the lawn mower repair shop has a special tool for this, at the end user should be able to change the blade without difficulty. The instruction manual doesn't even try to explain how to do it, probably because they know it's not well built and wants you to take it to somebody every time. I saw another YouTube videos that other models by Echo were not designed this way.

                  Great Chainsaw
This is a great quality chainsaw. I used it for the first time today and went through two tanks of gas. It worked perfectly and starts on the first pull. I would highly recommend this chainsaw.

                    Very happy
I have used several saws in my life. Some pretty big some small. This is a nice smaller/mid size saw. I have only ran a few tanks of fuel thru it at this time. But for what i was wanting and expecting i am very satisfied it starts very easy and has plenty of power for the size saw it is. I've cut some trees that took the entire 18 inch bar and it does a nice job. Hope it continues as is very satisfied

Great little saw made in the USA!
I own an echo cs-450p—a fantastic little saw. I use it to fell lodgepole pine for firewood. I also own an echo blower and a hedge trimmer. Both awesome tools. All are Reliable, built tuff, fairly priced, and all purchased from HD. So when i needed a small saw for use around a second home, this cs-400 was a no brainer. I needed to split some large diameter spruce bolts(16-18” in length)—too large to split with a splitting maul. So i used this to rip the bolts half thru then finished the task with the maul. This little saw never missed a tick! Until i hit a nail! Tuned up the chain and right back at it. This is a great little saw. Don’t be fooled. This thing is a beast. Fires every time. These narrow kerf saws are work horses—they cut like a hot knife thru butter. And this one is at the top of it’s class for function and economy. I will choose echo over the other brands any day for quality price ratio. Highly recommend.

                        Awesome Chainsaw
I bought this saw to cut firewood this year and I am very impressed with the power and performance of this chainsaw. I have cut 2 cords of wood so far with no complaints. On cold starts the saw fires right up. I prime the saw with about 6 pushes and choke pulled out. I give it a good pull and right away it wants to start. Push the choke in pull and it fires right up. I have yet to feel fatigue from holding the saw and cutting firewood. I like that the saw doesn’t vibrate excessively and it isn’t heavy either. To tighten the chain and get yourself up and running is quick and easy. I would recommend this saw quickly to those needing a saw to do the job.

Have had this saw for a year
First saw I’ve ever bought and I’ve cut down a lot of trees with it. Today i cut down a big pine. Biggest tree I’ve cut down so far. This saw is amazing. My dad has had only Stihl saws in the past but honestly the reliability of this saw is amazing. I didn’t run it for 4 months during the brutal heat and added fuel primed it and pulled the choke. 2nd pull turned over. Took choke off and off she goes. You cant see it in my picture but i had to fall 2 medium oaks and 2 sweetgums one which was a sever leaner and the pine. I still have the original chain on it and its been sharpened about 20 times. Well chain came off when I cut this tree so now I’ll have to get a chain but honestly surprised its lasted this long

Great saw for the average homeowner.
So far so good. I've only had it for 2 days but I'm loving the quality of the saw. I had someone cut down a tree and told them I'd cut up what they brought down to save myself a lot of money versus having them do it. I'm not sure what type of tree it is, someone told me oak but another told me maple. The setup was easy. I only had to tighten the chain some. I followed the instructions on initial startup and it started right up. I made sure to adjust the chain tension after running it for 15 minutes because I read they stretch when new. I had to do this probably 3 or 4 times until it seemed the chain tensioner was no longer needing adjustment. The guys were using $700 Stihl saws and there was definitely a difference in power but not so much that I'd spend the extra $400 for one. If I did it for a living I might consider it but like I said, this saw wasn't too far behind theirs. They even said they'll get one as a backup or for smaller jobs. I've included pictures showing what I cut with this saw. I kind of wish I'd sprang for the 20" bar since some of the logs were beyond the rated capabilities of the CS-400. But, I made it work. It only bogged down a few times. That's not the saws fault since I was pushing it. I would definitely recommend this chainsaw!

This chainsaw was bought to replace a 15 year old Echo CS 400 which saw very heavy usage and I was very pleased with. The new CS 400 shares all the same features I enjoyed about the older one and performed great right out of the box! I received it two days after ordering it which was fantastic! It was double boxed and well protected. I have watched many friends struggle with their chainsaws and was always pleased at how reliable the CS 400 was. As a footnote, after spending about $80 to rebuild the carburetor and service a few wear items, my old CS 400 is back up and running as good as new!

                              Starts everytime
It usually starts second pull. Occasionally, third pull. It definitely does its job. I have cut down four trees so far and it outperforms my other two chain saws. I was initially skeptical, (reading the negative reviews) but I concluded the hard starting problems were probably those who do not use 50:1 gas or do not put a gas stabilizer in the fuel. I have had zero problems with it or my other ECHOs. Someone recommended putting an Oregon chain on it, I did. I'm going to put the OEM chain back on when the replacement wears out. I also have an ECHO string trimmer (GT 225) and leaf blower (PB250LN). Echo makes some fine engines. They all start easily. I'm sold on value and quality. I would and do recommend Echo products to anyone interested. If they made a car, I would probably buy one.

One day of use side cover melted.
Im an expirenced chainsaw user, I bought this to replace my 30 year old Echo CS440. Fresh 2 stoke mix, bar oil and Im off to the races. Worked well for about an hour, then it started smoking like crazy. I shut the saw off, and it looked like my grass was on fire. The whole sprocket cover is melted and sunken in, looked like the clutch overheated. Not even one tank of gas though it and now its going back to the store. What a waste of time.

I only use my chainsaw a couple of times a year to trim trees and cut wood for my fireplace, but my saw gets a hard workout. Only had the Echo CS400 a couple of months.. It started easily and cut really well. Disappointed that it didn't come with a case. Also that I had to adjust the chain tension so often. The chain loosens up about every 15-30 minutes of use. I don't want to over tighten the bar guide adjusting nuts. I've stripped those threads before on another saw and it's a lot of work to replace the bolt(s).

Let me save you time and money
I am an average home owner that I like to do and repair things on my own. This was my first time purchasing a Chainsaw not my first time using one and decided to go with Ryobi because of the price and compare with the other expensive brands the Ryobi show better features but dont let the features or accessories trick you. I spend two days with the ryobi chainsaw pulling the cord, fighting to turning on and I follow every step on the guide, plus watch many videos in youtube how to use it, the first day I can only used it for one hour by next day the chain was already loose and need it an adjustment around 5pm on day number two I was frustrate, tired and sore for spending all day trying to turn the chain saw. I decided to go back to Home Depot returned and purchase an ECHO Chainsaw for my surprise the machine turn on with no effort and the engine stay on the whole time in just one hour was able to cut all the wood that I tried to cut in two days with the Ryobi. The quality of the Echo compare with the Ryobi piece of crap was so noticeable that my wife came out of that house because the sound of the motor on the Echo sound like a sport car compare with the motor of the Ryobi that sound more like a Hyundai going up hill. if this is your first time purchasing a chainsaw this is it, value your time the Echo chainsaw cut wood like butter and the quality of the parts are durable.

bought this saw to replace my 10 year old craftsman and that was a mistake, after 2 uses the saw had alot of issues, returned it and got another one and cut down about a dozen trees and the saw on high rpm acted like the choke was on,called echo and was told to take it to home depot for repair.get to home depot and was charged $18.95 right off and they did nothing because they had to send it to another service place, that took almost a month, then they tell us its gonna cost us $48 to make adjustments that was only due to useing the saw as a saw ,called echo to complain and corporate said they would call back,2 weeks later ,still no call, fed up with saw and company so i sold it yesterday and will go buy another craftsman .dont buy this saw thinking you have this 5 year warranty ,BECAUSE YOU REALLY DONT,IT COVERS WHAT THEY WANT IT TO COVER WHICH IS NO USE TO MOST PEOPLES PROBLEMS..

Hi there, I really liked this saw until chain brake nearly caught fire after a minute or 2 of running. Smoke everywhere and loud whistleing. Only had 30 minutes total run time on this saw. now it whistles and makes all kinds of noises, runs really rough and will not start or run with the brake on. It will only start with the brake off and it turns on at about 50 % throttle. IThere Warranty repair shop will not cover and said that the chainbrake cant be on while in idle. So im stuck with a broken saw

I use this saw 3-5 days per week. I cut trees into logs then split for my Central Boiler (Outdoor Wood stove). I burn wood all year around except for maybe 2 month during summer. So I cut a lot of wood. I buy logging trucks full of trees. This saw has really surprised me in a good way! Starts right up every time. I used it now for over a year and never needed to change spark plug or filter (but I plan to soon). lol The bar oil cap did break but no big deal I bought a new one for $3. I think it broke due to me over tightening it. I think this is a great saw for an inexperienced person. It is light weight as well. I'm very pleased with my saw and I plan to buy a bigger echo chain saw later this year.
