It was a copper tube and saddle valve (which I didn't use). I was installing an ice maker and didn't want to run plastic to the floor feed for the water. I also didn't want to use a saddle valve so instead I used a shark bite 3/4 in x 3/8 in x 3/4 in ball valve instead. I don't see the thrill with saddle valves especially since the pressure is completely relying on a piece of rubber which could easily be susceptible to dry rot or other corrosion. A Sharke Bite is a sealed unit that in my case sweated in and is working perfectly. From the floor to the fridge I used the plastic line which worked flawlessly but is also now easily replaced in case of failure.

The better way to go.
Use the copper to hook up the water supply to your fridge! Don't cheap out with the plastic water line kits, I've seen it, on several different occasions, spring pinhole leaks and it's, of course, generally when no one is around. A pinhole can ruin a floor rather quickly. It's under pressure.
If within distance of a water pipe to tap into and allowing at least 6 feet of bendable loop behind the fridge, 15 feet is adequate, otherwise just another compression coupling and some additional copper line will finish the job.
Open the valve, bleed out a few glass of water on the fridge door, and cheers to water, ice, and a job well done! (don't forget the water filter inside the fridge.)

Works fine, but more flexible kit might be better
Easy to install and actually works just fine. I was looking for a more flexible line like the flexible stainless steel type, but did not find one at the store. I realized later that those lines were in a different section of the store so I missed finding them. I feel those are less susceptible to pinching than this copper pipe. I didn't use some of the parts this came with as I was just installing directly to a shut off valve so I didn't need to use the compression piercing valve it came with. Other than that, it was real easy to hook up. Flushed the line with no issues. It was a new fridge, so the water line in the fridge needed to be flushed as well. Make sure to toss the first few rounds of ice too. Water taste is normal. My only complaint is that the copper pipe is pretty sensitive to pinching an inadvertent bending. Especially when you are moving the fridge in an out of place. Just be careful with how the coil is placed and arrange it in a way that makes a "spring" and is out of the way of getting caught on anything and you should be fine.

item not packaged with warning of lead content
Inner packaging of valve assembly indicated lead content exceeded requirements, however, the outer packaging did not exhibit this warning. Further reseach found that this applied specifically for California products but this was not indicated on packaging. returned product for a similar item that was compatable with my refrigerator.

Junk do not buy
This kit is absolute junk!!! Do yourself a favor and go to a professional plumbing supply store and get a quality product instead of this cheap Chinese kit. I should have known when I saw two kits on the shelf that were broken into and missing the valve that there was a problem with its manufacture. I bought a sealed kit and it was missing the rubber seal on the valve. What's even worse is that the needle valve stuck in the copper pipe upon installation causing it to pull out of the "T" handle rendering the valve useless. I could not get the water to flow due to this defect and upon disassembly saw what the problem was. I had to go elsewhere to replace the valve costing me twice as much money and several hours of wasted time and unnecessary trips. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Incomplete
Not all parts shown are included in kit. Only the 1/4" copper line and saddle with compression fitting is included. Missing is the 1/4" compression fitting and sleeve that attaches copper line to refrigerator and the 3/8" to 1/4" adapter shown in picture. I check a couple packages and they were all missing those parts. Copper line could easily kink so be careful when installing

works great, poor instructions
Great kit, has everything you need except clear instructions on how to attach the valve. It comes with some parts that aren't obvious as to how they fit into the valve or the pin, but you can figure it out by playing around with them a bit. Otherwise has everything you need to attach the icemaker.
