Easy but time consuming to install. Nice system. The night light aspect is a nice bonus.

This device, like many of the Nest Products are easy to install and set up. Everything was put together in a nice package and came with very few easy to follow instructions. I enjoy having the bonus night light, which is very soft.

Failed after 3 years
A great idea in concept. We have used one for nearly ten years. Added to our count of nest protects in 2021 and two of them are already fried and after more than an hour on the phone with google they informed me they can’t do anything for us…. Not good product support for such a high-cost item. Definitely NOT buying these again.

Installation not complicated. Best smart smoke alarm. Recommend by NYT wirecuter. Replaced our “First Alert" smart smoke alarm. First Alert became total dysfunctional in only a few years of operation.

These are pricey smoke detectors, but I wanted to be notified when something goes wrong in the house. They also provide carbon monoxide detection and a motion sensitive night light. Installation and configuration are easy if you follow the directions EXACTLY. Even though these are sold as wired, they run fine on batteries.

Unreliable
Purchased 3 of detectors in 2020. The sensors have now failed on 2 of the 3 detectors within the 3 years. This is outside the short warranty period of 2 years for a product that is supposed to last 10 years. I feel this is by design and not going to wait for the fail unit to fail.
I can not recommend this product as it needs to be replaced more frequently than the batteries and Google doesn't even want to stand behind it with such a short warranty.

Replaced 9 outdated smoke alarms in my home with Nest Protect. Installation was easy. Instructions were clear. Devices work great and integrate well with other smart home devices (google home). Would buy again!

Google Nest Protect is garbage
These are already failing and must be replaced after less than a year. The lithium batteries they require are very expensive and difficult to find and they have to be replaced after around 6 months. Google customer support will test your ability to stay calm. They are always soooo sorry that they can't help you, but they just can't for one reason or another. (To be fair, this is the same for all Google products, not just Nest.) Buy something else.
