We’re glad that you love the idea of managing the living room/office temperature settings remotely, but are sorry to hear it went offline and couldn’t connect back to the thermostat. We understand how difficult it could be having to reset and reinstall everything, and this is not the type of experience we want to share with you.

Sometimes, a range issue or wireless interference can cause your sensor to disconnect from your thermostat. Here are some steps to try:
- Try moving your sensor a bit closer to your thermostat. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away.
- Check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the sensor and your thermostat. These items could block the connection. For more help, read Troubleshooting wireless interference here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9276282
- Check the battery charge. The Nest app will send you a notification before the battery is fully drained, so you should have plenty of time to replace it.
- If the battery still has a charge, try removing it for 10 minutes. This lets power drain completely from the sensor and forces it to reset. Then put the battery back in and check if the sensor has reconnected in the Nest app.

The best placement for the Nest Temperature Sensor is within a maximum of 50 feet (15 m) of your thermostat, so the sensor and thermostat can communicate wirelessly. You may need to place them closer together because the wireless range can be reduced by walls, floors, appliances, furniture and other electronics. Connectivity issues are mostly affected by different factors. If you're willing to give it a shot, here are some recommended steps that may be helpful with the issue:
- Check for possible congestion in your Wi-Fi network. Removing some of your connected devices can help free up some bandwidth space. You may then check to see if you will still experience the same connectivity issue.
- You may also check for possible sources of interference such as the thick walls and appliances in your home.

There may be a couple of reasons why different rooms might show different temperatures in the Nest app. Some rooms are large and take longer to heat up or cool down. Rooms with lots of windows may lose heat more quickly in the winter, or heat up more quickly if the sun is shining. Even something as simple as closing a hallway door can keep air from circulating and cause a temperature difference. The Nest app can show you if one of your sensors has a temperature that’s significantly different from your other sensors. That way you can tell which temperature sensor to use at what time to keep you the most comfortable.
