Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your feedback with us about the Nest Temperature Sensor. We’re glad that you love the idea of managing the living room/office temperature settings remotely, but are sorry to hear it went offline and couldn’t connect back to the thermostat. We understand how difficult it could be having to reset and reinstall everything, and this is not the type of experience we want to share with you.
Sometimes, a range issue or wireless interference can cause your sensor to disconnect from your thermostat. Here are some steps to try:
- Try moving your sensor a bit closer to your thermostat. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away.
- Check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the sensor and your thermostat. These items could block the connection. For more help, read Troubleshooting wireless interference here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9276282
- Check the battery charge. The Nest app will send you a notification before the battery is fully drained, so you should have plenty of time to replace it.
- If the battery still has a charge, try removing it for 10 minutes. This lets power drain completely from the sensor and forces it to reset. Then put the battery back in and check if the sensor has reconnected in the Nest app.
