Our old Bissel broke (just like someone else in these reviews), and we wanted to get a good carpet cleaner that would last. I ADORE this thing! Everyone needs on in their life! Story time: we thought our basement/stairwell carpet was ruined. Our goal was just to get the smell out and maybe help the stains a bit. Not only did it smell horrifying (the smell from downstairs hit you at the front door), but it also looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years and like we just let our pets use it as a toilet (one was super sick for a while). The Bissel didn’t do anything, so our spirits were low. So, we had pet messes—bathroom accidents, blood, vomit, you name it—and mystery stains because we bought the house with stained carpet to start with. The stains are GONE. The smell is GONE. Our carpet looks brand new and smells like fresh linen! (Get the blue expert clean Hoover solution, too!) I cannot express how shocked I am! This machine specifically is amazing for so many reasons. I did NOT work hard at all to get the awful stains out that are in my pictures. It has a hose attachment that isn’t ALWAYS attached and in the way (with a hanger bag to hang it in the closet), it is SO easy to take apart to clean, remove tanks to empty/refill, etc. And assembly? Literally just stick the handle into the machine and you’re done. HEATED DRYING! Automatic wash/dry: push to wash, pull to dry. If you only want to dry, push the “dry only” button, and push and pull freely to dry. It’s got two rolling heads for scrubbing, and the hose attachment has interchangeable carpet and upholstery scrubbers. My FAVORITE part (that I was iffy about before buying) is the three separate tanks. One for cleaning solution, one for clean, warm water, and one for dirty water. It holds so much more that way, and if you don’t use all of your clean water, you haven’t wasted any cleaning solution because it can just stay in it’s separate tank until next time. You can refill the clean water 3 or 4 times before you need to empty the dirty water or refill the solution at all. I would have paid SO much more for this carpet cleaner (and I got it on SALE?!)! I am *never* going back!

DOES NOT CLEAN EDGES!!! This shampooer leaves a 1 and 1/2 inch untouched area all the way around the room at the wall. No matter if you go forward towards the wall or alongside the wall. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. It made some sense that the plastic of the hood might stop cleaning at the front of the machine, but alongside? After all, there are little brushes on either side of the machine outside of the plastic "hood" so you would think also that solution was going to go there as well. Nope. You just can't clean the edge. So I put the shampooer on dry carpet to see the "path" after the water would darken the light beige carpet. And you can clearly see there is no moisture (NO CLEANING) to the edge. All cleaning stops an inch and 1/2 inward from the outside edge of the machine. What good is that??!! Ridiculous. I'm returning. Also, I called Hoover, and the customer service was absolutely no help. Claimed to have never heard that before. Didn't seem to care if I give up and return the machine. Offered no trouble shooting whatsoever. Awful machine and awful customer service. Also tried to talk to Home Depot, and they were even worse then Bissell. No one I spoke with knew anything about anything regarding cleaning edges and/or this machine. Honestly!

I have used this carpet cleaner twice now. I find it easy to assemble, easy to fill and empty, BUT my issue with it is that when the dirty tanks only half way to the max line it begins to splatter dirty water on my white walls and furniture...very frustrating! Also, it seems to leave the carpets quite wet. It needs some weight to it so that the sucker picks up the water better. I am hoping that home depo has a better model that does not splatter dirty water all over my walls and furniture that I can exchange/upgrade to. I am disappointed with this carpet cleaner!

Have been through 2 of these in 9 months same problem with both. the scrub brushes actually melted and fell apart where they meet the plastic gears in the base of the machine. second one was only used 6 times before it stopped working. Yes, the machine was thoroughly cleaned between each use!

We just got it yesterday, and it did a fair job cleaning some really dirty carpets, but the stains stayed. Then it started leaking EVERYWHERE. This may be a glitch, or something I did wrong, so I'll update this when I take a second run at things. But for now... To be fair, I used a somewhat foamy soap meant for spot removal, so that could be my fault. The soap dispenser is very handy, but if you want to use a product that requires a different mixture ratio, you really have to direct mix it. And the fill hole is tiny compared to other cleaners because...they only engineered it for a kitchen faucet I think. If you want just water, no soap, you have to pop the reservoir out and lay it down somewhere safe while you run the cleaner for about 5 more minutes waiting for it to clean out the soap from within. I like to go back over the carpet with just water to get the cleaner out and it was a bit of a pain. Then things started going wrong. When the dirty water tank was removed, it dripped gunky water all the way to the sink. There was more between it and the body of the unit. I cleaned everything in the sink, bit it seems to me that the seals....aren't. As I chased around the living room with stain remover and my favorite scrub brush, It started leaving greasy grey stains on the carpet. No, it wouldn't get them back out, sadly. I'm going to give a a few more runs and we'll see what it does. I am pretty happy with what it did in one of the 2 high-traffic areas in our den. We'll see...

This Hoover Professional Series SmartWash Advanced Automatic Upright Pet Carpet Cleaner is by far the best carpet cleaner I have ever used. I have a full carpeted staircase and this model, FH52002 has a 12ft. hose (all details are confirmed in the photos I posted, as well), that was a big deal for me and this model came with a sample 'pet' solution and spot remover (which I poured on stubborn spots and let it sit for about 30 mins, and it worked really well, spots were gone). It has a separate container for cleaning solution, which means it cleans with or without a soap. This control over cleaning is something I have not found with any other cleaner I have used. You want to shampoo your carpets, use the solution; you want to rinse with water only, remove the solution container and clean as you would any other time. It is so versatile! This cleaner also has a 'dry' only mode that lets you suction up water in the machines forward and backward movement which is HUGE! If you feel like it, you could do that for a while and have carpets that are practically dry. I liked the fact that all the containers that have contact with moisture could be rinsed and dried! So no smelly machine sitting around. I wish I had thought to take a before and after video, so everyone could see for themselves. I am just a simple consumer, like anyone else, but a quality product deserves to spoken about.

First let me say my carpets were pretty bad, living in vegas you track in black stuff from the asfault. I purchaced this around 7:30 pm got home and immediately got to work. My condo is 920 sq ft so it took me about an hour and a half. I was so amazed by only going over tha carpets once, the seperate dirty water tank is a major plus. The clean water tank holds a lot, i was able to do my living room and hallway on one tank. I love love the automatic wash dry, you push forward to wash and pull back to dry. It also has a button for dry only, therefore ale to go over the carpet to just dry in which allows it to dry SUPER FAST. The removable head part to pull the brushes out so that you can clean them is a super plus. I havent tried the seperate hose attachment to do stairs although i have none, i will use it on my couch. I cleaned my carpets last week and did them again today. I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS SO LONG AGO. It speaks for itself, I just cant say enough about this carpet cleaner. GREAT JOB HOOVER!!!!! Super impressed over here. Oh last thing my condo it upstairs and i have a small patio that has the outdoor carpet on it. It was super BLACK I cleaned it this morning as well and it looks like brand new carpet againWOW

Overall it is a good carpet cleaner. The only problem I have had with this one is the brushes will seize up due to the bearings sticking and it breaks. After every use I recommend cleaning and greasing the bearings.

It was excellent! Does a great job!

This is a good machine. I've used it now to do two rooms. The ability to clean all parts is nice. Has really good suction. Beats the Bissell by a mile! In the picture is one of the rooms I used it on.

My wife decided to get an 8-week old puppy and I decided to get this product. Just used it for first time. Met all expectations. I first used it to clean a rug by front entrance to home that had been stained by puppy. Did great job. Next, I used it on a carpet pathway. Again, it did just fine. Pathway looks about the same as the last time it was professionally cleaned. As anticipated, if you have whole home carpeting, unless you have lots of time and patience, this is not a substitute for professional carpet cleaning. I suppose you could do so, but it would be very time consuming. Instead, I recommend this product for spot cleaning and pathways. The product will quickly save you money by cleaning these areas to extend time between professional carpet cleaning. It was easy to set up, use, and clean for storage. I wish I had gotten one long before the puppy came home.

I appreciated so much about this machine! Not only does it do an EXCELLENT job cleaning the carpet, but the machine clean up was a breeze! The dirty water tank lifts out with little effort, the same with the clean water tank! The plastic cover over the brushes come off & the brushes pop right out & are a cinch to reassemble after cleaning! The "Dry Only" feature works like a charm too! I've had a couple of Bissell's in the past, they did ok on the cleaning part, but I struggled with the water tanks, and never could get the pet hair out of the brushes! My main reason for needing the cleaner was a sump pump back up on my basement carpet (No easy task)! :( We also have a St Bernard & she sheds like MAD, no problem for this cleaner! Plus it tackled the couple of accidents she had! Happy Happy Happy!

I have rented the rug doctor carpet shampoo vac many times. After reading the reviews for this product I bought it and was very surprised at the ease of use, and the ease of cleaning parts and refilling. It left a very clear clean row on my rug with the first strip cleaned and one time over. After several it looked like a new rug.

The Hoover smartwash got rid of an old stain where our dog had had diarrhea and vomitted. We had already tried multiple carpet cleaning products and still had nasty dark stains. The Smartwash quickly removed the stains WITHOUT using the pretreatment or spot stain remover, just the normal cleaning solution! BEST MONEY EVER SPENT! Easy setup (less than 1 minute), easy to use.

Had it for a couple of hours now. My Bissell finally quit halfway through cleaning my living room carpet. So, I got on Home Depot website and quickly went through the reviews and videos. I went down to Home Depot, got this carpet cleaner and a Pro Plus Bottle of cleaner, and went home to finish my job. WOW. It is so nice having a different reservoir for the clean and dirty water. It cleans GREAT. I even went over a small area of what I did with my Bissell and it got more dirt up, picture below. Set up was so easy. They even give you quick directions on how to get it out of the box. Going back to cleaning now, going back over what my Bissell didn't get up.

I have on many carpet cleaners over the years as I have pets and always having a carpet cleaner on hand has been a necessity. The 1st time I use this machine my husband was nearby and I almost started crying because of how easy it is to use and how it is so amazing compared to all the other Hoover steam cleaners I've owned. I trust this brand and have never owned any other brand other than Hoover for the steam cleaners. By far this is the best model they have ever created. I've never wanted so badly to write a review immediately and share it with everyone. If you are in doubt, don't hesitate to buy this.

For starters, the fine people at Hoover product development were kind enuf' to send me this as a bonus Seeds program item to test, in conjunction with the new Hoover PowerDash that I was testing...thank you, Hoover people. My initial impression, very attractive item. I think this is a new direction for Hoover designs, 2 forward-rolling power brushes (?). I was surprised to see that they consider this their best full-size cleaner...in my first use, comparing it to other machines I've used, can't say that I saw much difference. A lot of machines eventually get out “most” of the dirt, I'd like one that gets out ALL the dirt. The way this machine works, automatically putting down solution on forward roll (Wash), & auto suction-only on back (Dry), may be attractive to some people, but I personally would sacrifice the ease of using this system to having more control. Yes, I know, there's a “Dry Only” button (which you have to bend down to push), but I wish more machines had the capability to just put solution down, without suction, so you could pre-treat using your machine, and not waste a ton of solution getting sucked up before it can even work at breaking down dirt (they must think we're idiots who can't be trusted not to over-soak...hmmm)......plus, a couple other things...when you start to push forward, there's a hesitation before the Wash light comes on...several inches of movement...they told me the water is spraying, just takes a moment for the light to come on (?)...hard to say if that's correct...also, this machine is designed so the water application nozzles spray down in between the 2 rotating brushes, so I noticed right away a lot of the solution gets sucked up during the forward Wash cycle, before it has a chance to do any cleaning...not sure what the thinking is on that...when I asked about it, they didn't really have an explanation...I guess we're supposed to “trust the process”.....so, yes, this machine does do a pretty good job.......AFTER multiple passes, & much fluid use. That being said, it is a very nice machine. Easy assembly, simple but clear instructions. It puts a good amount of well-distributed water down during Wash (maybe the brushes help distribute it?), & does very well at sucking it up & blow-drying it in Dry. At $229., it's probably a good value for a brand spanking new product. It's very easy to fill & empty the water (tho' like other machines, the dirty water tank float fills before the clean water is gone...sure would seem better to be able to change them both at the same time). It's easy to remove the nozzle & the brushes for cleaning. It has a separate auto-dispense solution tank that requires no mixing. The cord is a decent length (22'), tho' I don't like the “lower” cord wrap...inconvenient (I suppose they had to leave space for the solution tank). Hooking up the hose attachment is straightforward & works well, the tool attachment works good, and the hanging storage bag is appreciated. I do wish the sprayer on the hose attachment sprayed closer to the suction nozzle...it's about an inch behind it, it should spray closer to it......it feels awkward, inefficient, unnatural...makes you have to compensate. I had a couple problems with my machine, which can probably be chalked up to this being a new item. My first machine, after working great for 3 hrs., the wash cycle quit working...no Wash light, no water. In conference with one of the techs, it was determined water was getting into the electrical system somehow. I don't THINK I did anything unusual to make that happen (?). I shipped that one back, & the replacement so far has been fine (except for the nozzle being slightly askew upon delivery). The other problem I had was with the solution dispenser...it was using too much detergent per gallon of water, I'd say about twice as much (based on 4 oz. per gal.). They recognized that as a problem, & were working on fixing it for the future. In the meantime, they recommended you can either add the correct amount of solution directly to your water tank, or dilute the solution tank with half water/half detergent...works for me. Hoping they'll send me a new tank when they fix it?

This machine has far exceeded my expectations. Through the years I have had a few carpet cleaners. None that worked very well. So I didn't expect very much form another carpet cleaner. But this machine is amazing. Simple to assemble and then just add water + soap(trial size included) and you are off. It has a very large vacuum head with 2 large beefy brushes. You simply turn it on and as you push it propels itself forward , dispensing cleaner and scrubbing the carpet. When you pull back it automatically switches to suction and drys the carpet leaving them lightly damp. This automatic feature makes it easy to use without soaking the carpet too much. I did an area in by basement that sees heavy outdoor traffic so it is very dirty. I can't believe that going over this areas a few times it significantly cleaned the carpet. The water and soap are easy to load and the dirty water is also a snap to empty. The Vacuum head, brushes, and fluid containers all are easily disassembled for easy, but thorough cleaning of the machine. It comes with a large amount of tools and hose which are all in a nice bag that can hang in a closet or hook. I am beyond impressed by this machine and have cleaned almost all of the carpets in my home. I highly recommend.

I believe there is beauty in simplicity and this carpet cleaner captures that. I have never owned a carpet cleaner before and usually have our carpets cleaned professionally about once a year during the warm summer months. Whenever spills or accidents have occurred, I would tackle it with spot cleaners and hope for the best. This carpet cleaner takes a lot of the guess work out of that method. Very easy to set up and use. This vacuum comes with a hose attachment for handling stairs, upholstery and those small hard to get areas. The hose attachment has a great storage bag with hanger that just conveniently hangs in your closet out of the way. Unit itself is fairly lightweight and easy to move around. There is are three separate tanks for clean water, processed water and cleaner. It mixes the cleaner for you so you do not have to measure it beforehand. The whole design of the carpet cleaner is sleek and modern. With all of the parts being see through you can really gauge what is going on while you are cleaning. Has indicator lights for what mode it is in. When pushing forward the clean light comes on. When pulling unit back the dry light comes on. When you place the unit in dry only mode the dry light stays lit during both motions. Also when in dry only mode you can tell how much water is still being pulled out of the carpet through the clear cover over the brush bar area. I have to say I was amazed at how dirty the water was after using this for the first time. We vacuum at least 2 times a week and was not expecting as much dirt and grit that was present in the water tank. This does an excellent job of cleaning. I was a little worried that the cleaner solution would not smell good based on some of the reviews I read, but was pleasantly surprised. It has an obviously cleaner smell, but wasn’t off putting in any way. Plus, it was more of the smell straight out of the bottle not so much after it was used on the carpets that was the strongest. Clean up and emptying of the machine was very easy. Just empty the three tanks and give the return tank and the two brush bars a good rinse. Let everything dry, then store. The box says the vacuum has Automatic Cleaning Technology. It has Auto Clean motion sensing design eliminates the guesswork. It washes when pushed forward and dries when pulled back. It has Auto Mix which precisely mixes and dispenses solution for optimal cleaning. It also has Auto Dry powerful extraction with Heat Force for faster drying. This vacuum comes with a 5 year limited warranty. The one thing my wife stated when using it was that you have to remember it's not a regular vacuum and to slow down when going back and forth so it can do its job. All in all this is a fantastic carpet cleaner and we are hoping to be using it for years to come.

My last shampooer was knocked around and broke in too many places to fix. purchased this one and was very happy with it. Brushes worked great and suction was very good. Nice tank sizes. Overall very happy.

This cleaner does a mediocre job at best. The device only "cleans" when it is moving forward, and it "dries" when it is moving backwards. This means that you cannot leave it on a spot or stain. You have to try to go back an forth while the machine awkwardly switches from Clean to Dry. Very unsatisfactory.

I searched for a carpet and upholstery cleaner. The manufacturer said the stair cleaner can be used as an upholstery cleaner, then when you open the instructions it says there is an actual upholstery cleaner attachment that must be purchased separately ($45) When using the attachment, instructions say if the handle is upright the rollers won’t turn. It still sprays cleaner from the base. I didn’t realize until ten minutes into cleaning that a large puddle had accumulated under the machine.

It's ok I used it once. I will have hagopian clean them next time. Should have gotten my carpet cleaner.
