Template for recommended hole size was not large enough to install can. Had to cope out hole in ceiling to install

Extremely easy to install once you figure it out. Says it’s for either 1/2” or 5/8”, but it’s ready for 1/2 and needs a slight alteration for 5/8. A slight widening of the clip makes a world of difference and the locking it place with a flathead screwdriver seals the deal. Works great, looks even better and very easy to install. Anyone who complains about the clip, hasn’t figured it out. Follow my tip and it’s smooth sailing.

For reference, I build a lot of high-end/custom furniture and cabinetry from scratch, work on and modify performance cars, build computers, have a home theater design-to-build company, and essentially do everything you can do to a high-end house, including electrical, plumbing, A/V, etc. Anyway, I bought these a while back and installed four (of six) in my own master bedroom. I forgot how much I hated them until I recently installed the remaining two in my office. In addition to the cheap build quality, the retaining clips are the absolute dumbest design I've seen in any product for a long time, and I forgot that I ended up using super glue to hold them to the drywall upon initial install, since I couldn't trust the clips. Since I'd originally bought these, I'd also bought and installed some all-in-one 6" clip-in LEDs (in my son's playroom, our billiard room, and our theater) from an online retailer that mimic the can light look, and they are SOOO much better than dealing with these junk housings and then frustratingly mounting LEDs into them (for roughly double the total price of the better kind). The only reason I used the remaining two this week was because I decided to install them on a whim, when I was cleaning out a storage room and came across the box. They keep falling down because of the horrible retaining clips, so I'm going to order some more of the all-in-one types and throw these in the garage, where they absolutely belong. There are so much better options available at a lot cheaper price, so steer clear of these!

High quality item that was very easy to install in 7/8" drywall ceiling

They were the least expensive so you get what you pay for. It took me 2 holes to find out you need to make a 6 1/4 hole to fit. My mistake because it tells you in the directions. They seem a little flimsy and the clips were hard to set. One of the arms on the can broke so I'll be returning it. Once installed they worked fine.

Every housing that has this particular type of tab is ...***A ROYAL PAIN***... to mount. Sometimes, it’s completely inexplicable as to why the tabs won’t just simply push into place. I’ve used these before, and knew that they are fiddly, and maybe I just lack patience today, but my god, it’s been an ever loving fight to the bitter death to mount 9 of these, 2 while precariously perched on top of a ladder straddling the stairs reaching to a 20’ ceiling. Do you engineers at Halo claim to be intellegent? Prove it! I *challenge you* to design a better, easier to install product. Your current design sucks!!!!!!!!! SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I say it any plainer without bad language? SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSS!!! YOU, yes you! S-U-C-K! Your product is a steaming pile of poo that sucks harder than the vacuum of space. You manufacture Yugos, I challenge you to build a Toyota. 3 more lights to go, please kill me.

This item was installed in a shower and was easy to install. The trim that picked is very bright. Thanks

Easy to install And flexible

Like the push on connectors and bushings on the wire entrance. The mounting brackets are a little hard to set in the final locking position. Had to use a hammer and wood block.

Had to go into attic area to install mounting blocks to screw into , mounting clips that come with these are junk unable to use them . I suggest you try another brand ! will not purchase this item again. I'm not a homeowner - but a contractor 42 yrs.. oh also missing 1 electric box cover - I had to make my own .

These are for LED lights and the manufacturer has decided to make them very cheap as LED lights don't get hot. The clamps are so cheap that they do not work often and the housing is the thinnest material that often rips when you try to snap the the clamp. Halo usually has great product but this requires a better clamp and a strong housing especially where the clamp is inserted so it does not bend. Very disappointed that Home Depot is even sells this product.

I hired an electrician to install this light. It took about thirty minutes to install due to it being a new installation , not a replacement. Very pleased with the light.

Not sure what the trick is to these but the metal tabs to lock them in place is a lame design. Seems you have to bend them just right for them to work or they’re to hard to press in or come loose easily. Used screws to keep tabs in place. If tabs were a thinner gage would probably work better.

This fixtures are easily to installed.

Perfect for the location

I purchased 8 of this recessed lights. Of the 8 fixtures, all but one recessed can had a clip failure. In fact 4 or 5 cans had at least two clips that did not properly seat to secure the fixture to the ceiling. Now I have 7 can lights that don't fit snug against the ceiling. The clip fastener is poorly designed to save money. Given the price I paid for this product I should not have had any problems at all. shame on you Halo.
