Not really universal & cheap plastic bulb cover
This kit didn't fit my existing Westinghouse ceiling fans. I converted another fan earlier with an inexpensive two lamp socket and got a better result for about one fifth of the cost. This cover didn't have a way to get my pull chain for the fan speed switch through it. The lamp pipe supplied with the socket was too long with a coupler and a short piece of pipe and too short without it for my existing glass cover with the second hole for the pull chain. Disappointing!

We are sorry to hear that you feel this way about the light kit. As stated in the product description, the light does include a shatter resistant plastic shade. The shade mimics frosted glass with the added benefit of not breaking if dropped during cleaning or installation. The light is designed to accept the fan speed pull chain. The fan speed chain should be routed though the center hole of the light shade and then route through the off center hole on the bowl cap which would result in the light and speed chains next to each other for convenient operation. This light is not designed to be compatible with any other shades, so the threaded post length would be either too short or too long if using an alternate shade.

It works but it is ugly. Unfortunately the only light kit available. Other fan lights are LED and much lower profile. This one sticks out really low for a ceiling fan and gets in the way.

Disappointed that the light fixture wasn't glass, but was plastic. Guess I missed that detail in the specs or description.

If the fan has a dimming feature (remote or wall control) please make sure that the light is set to the brightest setting using either the remote or wall switch (if applicable). The light kit can take up to 9-watt (60-watt equivalent) LED bulbs. If those tips do not resolve the issue, please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) and one of the team members will be able to get more information to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

I expected the covering to be made of glass not plastic. Very disappointed in quality of product for what I paid.

Cheap plastic shade.
Please tell me the model number of the glass shade I can get for my Altura. Unfortunately when I purchased the fan a year ago I did not realize it didn't have a light kit. I now have to purchase a light kit and the universal one would be great but I am not looking forward to putting a cheap plastic shade on my beautiful fan.

Nice addition to the Hampton Bay fan that I had purchased. Lights are bright. It was easy to install (by electrician). I also added an additional kit to an existing fan. Very pleased.

Lacks Needed Hardware for Installation
There is a simple light fixture nut; Hampton wants you to save it from the fan plate you have to remove, however, the fan plate did not use the needed hardware, so off to the hardware store I had to go. Silly to not include the 11-cent nut.
Also, no wire nuts! Again, something so simple to have included.
What should have been a 10-15 minute install resulted in searching through my spare parts, and finally spending 20 minutes at a local hardware store finding the right 11-cent nut.

Thank you for your review. The light kit does not include wire nuts because the wires have the molded adaptor plugs to make installation simpler with Hampton Bay and Home Decorators Collection fans that have the molded adaptor plugs. Also, the light kit should have had a hex nut and lock washer preinstalled on the threaded post of the light kit. In general, if there are any issues with an item, we suggest calling Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678). In most cases, issues can be resolved over the phone with some minor troubleshooting.

Bought two of these because the light kits in two Hampton Bay ceiling fans started shorting out. This kit was compatible, and works great. The light cover is plastic, however, and much less attractive than the original light cover, which is surprisingly NOT compatible.

I’ve installed three of these, and they’re great! Can’t say enough good things about it. Just buy it. One thing - it will not work with any type of dimmer switch or Smart switch. It gives a loud buzzzzz. I changed the switch out and it was great!

Adaptable for Hampton Bay legacy fan/light combos
The product was exactly as advertised. It didn't fit immediately into the fan/light combo I needed to repair, but I was able to remove some pieces from the in-place fan/light and remove the lights to use the proper fitting and push the new light fixture into the older cowling, tighten the screws and everything fit.
I do recommend purchasing additional beaded chain. (Home Depot has them under Commercial Electric (1005974642). In the end, I was able to use the original tinted glass.
