Thank you for your review ERB, without it we are not able to improve on our customer experience.
It is important to note that hardwood is not defined by the density of the wood, but by the type of tree it is from (ie. deciduous vs coniferous). Basswood is a hardwood however it is softer in density than say a Maple or Oak tree. Based on the item you have purchased, and a lot of our decorative hardwoods, Basswood is a perfect specie for it because it allows us to emboss or carve out profiles with and against the grain as needed, while maintaining a smooth finish. The lower density wood is ideal for carving, embossing, etc. and is why it is used for this particular product. Its fine grain also allows it to be painted and finished smoothly.
